I've been waiting to see if any BA posters happened to hear Tyler T. on 610-WTVN Sunday morning. Dave Maetzold talked Bobcat football just after the 10 a.m. news and said Tyler was scheduled to be on but the interview had to be pushed back to later in the morning as Tyler was at church during the scheduled time. Unfortunately, I was on my way to church and unable to listen beyond the 10-minute drive.

I thought Maetzold, who has a daughter attending Ohio, was rather condescending toward the Bobcats' 6-0 start and was more interested in talking about Court St. and the Nelsonville bypass. Maybe it got better with Tyler on the air.

I know Joe Mac used to listen to this show and I used to listen to it more regularly until Mr. High School Sports Larry Larson left the program about a year ago. Now, if I have a choice, I'll dial in Ken Broo on WLW Sunday mornings. Broo plays great music going into and coming out of commercials and more importantly never misses a chance to talk up his beloved Bobcats.

The smarm level is once again rising to hazardous levels in Columbus. They now actually have a head coach who can back up that level of condescension, though.

Before they were just insanely talented, ran a 1950s offense and revered the punt.

I bought a new car for my wife and had to go to Columbus to pick it up Wednesday. Listening to sports talk radio in central Ohio is like fingernails on a chalkboard. I drove from Sawmill Rd to 33/270 before I couldn't take it any more. I called Sirius from the road and activated her radio as I headed down 33 just so I didn't have to listen to regular radio. I really don't know how non-OSU fans live up there.

Why isn't this a separate thread altogether?  My wife heard this quote and just about split a gasket.  She is a native of Cowtown and her mother was an OSU graduate, and a great OSU fan.  But, this was just beyond the pale.  I'm not sure if she was more upset with the content or the grammar, but the combination was enough to put her over the top.

A point of inquiry: I've heard this quote both the way it was quoted by B36 and also the even more ungrammatical "We ain't came here to play school."  Which is correct?  What did this moron actually say?

Yeah, and it's a challenge opening up that Dispatch sports page every morning. They won't jump on the bandwagon until they are virtually forced too. The editors have probably already decided that they won't at least until after they can hopefully run a few hyped up Athens Halloween horror stories first (and ignore O$U couch burning fests).

We are getting noticed though. My son plays in a Fall Ball baseball league in Gahanna. Every game I have Bobcat gear on, amongst the throngs of those wearing O$U gear (not sure exactly how many of them are of the "Walmart" variety buyer version fan as opposed to alum). Have had quite a few unsolicited complimentary remarks about OHIO from many - they know we are winning (FBALL and BBall). This last Sunday I saw a guy walking up to the field w/a Marshall sweatshirt - I went right up to him - we had a great chat - largely centered around the fact that it is fun to be associated w/a "Mid Major" successful program while residing in the heart of a "Big" school city - always "agitatin' w/my gear, window stickers, and such. I told him that I really enjoyed going to the FBall game in Huntington this year. He said he had not been to Athens in many years - I strongly urged him to come to the OHIO/Marshall BBall game in January - He said he had not even thought about it, but that I may have convinced him he should go. Fun stuff.

You get used to the media. The worst part of living in osu inc. territory is the constant brainwashing your children receive in school. The O-H-I-O cheers, all the scarlet and gray clothes, etc. . . . Only the strong of mind and spirit can weather such propaganda at such an impressionable age and not end up being a buckeye fan.
My 13-year-old daughter survived and could care less one way or another. My 5-year-old boy is a Bobcat fan, except when he's mad at me and tells me he likes osu.

Note: I'm listening to Al Stewart's "Year of the Cat" on my ipod as I type this early in the morning before my students arrive in my classroom.

I moved to Columbus five years ago and have developed absolutely no connection to the city, entirely on the basis that I will not subject myself to the herd mentality around a university that very few of its fans attended.

My media world is almost exclusively limited to the internet, satellite radio, NPR, Sunday New York Times, Sprout, Cartoon Network, and Disney XD.

I'll second that!

Ours have been to so many games in Athens at this point though, that they feel more than comfortable standing up for the real Ohio.  Just this morning our Daughter (6th grade) picked a Bobcat shirt out of the closet and our Son (Freshman) wore his Bobcat pullover.  The latter example might not be a fair sample though as he wears it virtually every day.

Our Daughter (and a friend she's taken to multiple games) will even go so far as to yell "U!" after every obligatory O-H-I-O during football season bus rides.

I live near Columbus.  When my son was in grade school they had spirit days on Friday. The principal announced that kids could wear cloths to support the school district or OSU instead of the dress code.  My son went to school in full Ohio gear, went up to the principle and explained that he was a Bobcat, his parents were Bobcats, and that Ohio is his school.

The next week the princple announced that kids could wear cloths to support the school district or the university of their choice instead of the dress code.

The war will be won one child at a time.

Thanks for clearing this up.  I sent this image to a friend in Cowtown.  He replied that this moron had a 3.0+ GPA at the Big Farm.  I asked if it was in underwater basket weaving.  He said, no, it was in molecular biology.  I replied that he must have meant that his IQ was molecular in its biological impact.  That one seems to have stumped him.

He's a true Freshman and they haven't started finals yet...Interesting that he already has a GPA...Maybe your friend is referencing his Fork Union GPA?  Although chances are he's on the Clarett Verbal Exam tract so a 3.0 might not be as much of a reach as you'd think...

What really gets me is reading the comments at the bottom of the articles.  More frequently than not, A&M Nation references the fact that he's only 3rd string...Apparently this attitude would be acceptable if the quotee were destined for the pros.

If you're a fan of classic rock and Ohio University sports, then it doesn't get much better than listening to Ken Broo on Sunday mornings.

If you are also a Cincinnati Reds fan? To quote Kenny Bania from Seinfeld, "That's gold, Jerry! Gold!"
