...available for purchase somewhere in the Columbus airport?

I'm sitting here now looking at a ton of OSU gear for sale. OK, I get it. We're in C-bus and OSU is THE team here.

But there's something wrong when I can buy Michigan gear and not OU gear here (I know it's at the Big Ten store, but still...)

Which brings up the bigger question: What can we do to amp up merchandising outside of Athens? Heck, even the Athens Walmart has 3x more OSU gear than Bobcat gear. But what can we do to start hitting markets outside of Athens?

With football and basketball teams both in the Top 25, now's a good of a time as any.

-Ask retailers to stock it? Check.

-Demand to talk to a store manager and receive a verbal commitment that they "will look into it"? Check.

-Follow-up with incessant emails to said store manager? Check.

-Abide by court order to stop harrassing a store manager? Umm...check

You know, every time I see one of these merchandise threads, I always come to the same conclusion:

STOP FRICKING SHOPPING AT WALMART!!!!  Don't go there.  Don't get your food there, don't get your clothes there. There's never been anything on this planet more toxic to the American worker (and I'm not just talking Walmart employees) than this fricking abomination.

Without getting into the big-box business debate, I would point out that it's business. Sprawl-Mart (oops, showed my hand there) or any other store is only going to stock merchandise for profit - nothing else.

When I wear my Bobcat gear, people often ask when I graduated. It's just assumed we have a tight bond with the school. This is a mixed blessing. We have no Wal-Mart fans to generate more income or interest. On the other hand it's nice that we have no Wal-Mart fans. Not sure which situation I'd rather have to be honest.

-Don't even dare think about including any mention of Walmart's OU merchandise selection in a post. Check.

One person asking (or demanding) something won't change things much.  A good retailer tries to reflect the demand in the market they serve.  If it's not carried, it's probably because there's not sufficient demand to sustain it.  One single person aggressively requesting something won't change that.  Lots of people asking for the same thing over time, however, WILL change things.  If you see more OSU gear than OHIO gear in a store, that's most certainly a reflection of the fact that they SELL more of one than the other.  Believe me, when the demand for product shifts, the retailers will follow!! :-)

Stunter, don't expect it at Port Columbus this millenium.  An airport is a reflection of the city it serves.  You'll find mostly Bengals and Reds stuff at CVG; mostly Browns, Indians and Cavs at Cleveland.  Not sure what you'll find at Toledo Express.  Only been there once to drop somebody off.  But I know Dayton is largely Reds country, so that's what you'll find.  You won't find Ohio garb at a major airport until they build one for Solich near Athens.

As for retailers, I'm sort of glad we don't see it much.  Six or seven years ago I found a couple of t-shirts at the Elder-Beerman in Heath.  The selection of course was small and paled next to the volume of O$U stuff.  And that's the way it will always be because there are a lot more O$U grads and fans around (plus, in Heath they're close to the O$U Newark campus).  I like the fact that to get Ohio stuff, you need to go to Athens or shop online.  Anyway, who wants to see a You Tube video of The People of Walmart dressed (sort of) in Ohio gear.

I like Walmart but understand some don't. I never by Bobcat stuff at WalMart though. Usually always get my stuff from bookstore.

All Big Tendozen hating aside, that really was a brilliant move by whoever decided to build the Big Ten store in the airport.  There is probably regular traffic in and out of fans coming to town to watch their teams play A & M throughout the year.  As an entrepreneur I applaud that thinking.

We can definitely hang our hat on the fact that when there is Ohio merchandise for sale, we buy it up.  I have been up to the Gund/Q etc. on several occassions for the MAC Tourney for the finals and they are always sold out of the Ohio gear, with plenty of shirts left for pretty much every other school.

What frustrates me the most is watching the Cats on tv and seeing the coaches/support staff wearing all kinds of sweet looking Russell gear that I cannot go and buy as an alum/fan.

This thread's title gets me thinking how much I would greatly appreciate anyone's assistance in locating a black t-shirt with "The REAL O-H-I-O" and attack cat on the front. It is the icon of BA poster The REALO-H-I-O. I've found it on e-bay but not the correct size (XL). Would love to wear this shirt to work on Fridays when the sheep are wearing osu inc. shirts.
