I vow to say only nice things about Toledo for 24 hours.

Toledo 29
UC 23

At the same time, no offensive touchdowns.  Points is the biggest stat, obviously, but people will say it was a "smoke & mirrors" win.

I'm real glad Toledo won, but I have one question.  With a three point lead, 4th and goal inside the 5 with about 45 seconds to go and UC having no TOs left., why do you kick the FG?  I would have run the ball.  If you don't get the TD, they have 95 yards to go in probably about 38 seconds.  That's more real estate than after a short kickoff.  Just doesn't make sense to me, but then I'm not a coach.

Winning ugly beats losing pretty.  I remember a Friday night in 2005 when the only TDs were on 2 INTs and a kickoff return.  It got the Solich years off to a flying start.

I understand your point, but they wouldn't need to go 95... Only 50 yards into field goal range...

I've seen crazier things happen.

UC then needed a TD to win - FG would not seal the deal - good decision in my book

I'm with OCF on this one.  Clock runs out after the 4th down and MAYBE one more play.  And UC would have needed more like 60-70 yards for a tie field goal.  Why chance a long kick off?  As it was UC got the ball at the 35-40 after the kick so still had 60-70 yards to go.  If they had busted it to midfield, they had a chance to win.

I also wonder why they didn't go for two after the last TD (I think)?

Just got back from the Glass Bowl....came away impressed with Toledo. They have some speed on special teams and some guys that have big play ability on the offensive end. Defensively, they did not get any pressure on the Cincinnati QB all night and were lucky the Bearcats could not connect on some big passes. They have weaknesses, just like we do. I think we could score points on them with Beau. Both teams have a long road to hoe to get to the MAC Championship, but I could see an Ohio v. Toledo MAC Championship and both teams could very well be ranked.

P.S. Nice crowd tonight, probably was 25,000 plus. But they have the same issues we do getting fans off their butts and into the game. Was well into the 4th quarter before the old farts woke up. I also saw a lot of people get up and leave with 6 minutes left. Apparently the game got a little to exciting for them.

The clock stops at change of possession - they would have had more time than they did after the kickoff

60 yards for a FG to tie

vs

80 yards for a TD to win

Crowd and team looked good. Toledo vs. NIU is shaping up to be a real good 'un.

I heard that Toledo is 5-1 in home games now against top 25 opponents. That is pretty impressive. I wish we could get some good competitors in the 15-25 range into Peden sometime in the future!

We've got Cincinnati and Kansas coming in a few years down the road.

As I watched the game, I kept thinking about how great it would be to have a game like that in Peden. Could you imagine a top 25 opponent in the house? I don't think we'd be complaining about the atmosphere then!

Good point! It will be interesting to see how Kansas is in 2017. So up and down lately, it's hard to gauge if they'll be top 25 material or down like they are this year. I'm glad they are on the schedule though regardless.

The MAC earns another good out of conference win.  I am more confident an undefeated MAC Champion would be the highest ranked non-AQ school and be in the top 16.  I think the computers are going to start liking the win at Penn St. more and more.  I also think Boise's loss to Michigan St. is starting to hurt their resume more and more.

Now we need Kent to knock off Rutgers this weekend.  If that happens, the MAC can state with a straight face that it owns the Big East.  At that point UConn, USF, Cincy and hopefully Rutgers will all have lost to MAC teams.  That has to help the MAC's overall standing amoung FBS/D-IA conferences and indirectly help us as well.

Would love to see it as well, but Kent was quite unimpressive against Kentucky and Rutgers is the far better team.  But, crazier things have happened. Come on Flashes, prove me wrong.

Yes, a Kent State win would be wonderful for the conference.  But we haven't owned the Big East.  I think that we are 3-4 against them while having suffered several blowout losses.

Connecticut 37
Massachusetts 0

Connecticut 24
Buffalo 17

Cincinnati 52
Miami (OH) 14

Pittsburgh 20
Buffalo 6

The Big Ten is no longer on par with the SEC, Big XII, and Pac 12.  The ACC and Big East are even lesser conferences in football right now than the Big Ten.  The MAC is having a better year right now than last year.  But we don't own the Big East no matter if Kent State can beat Rutgers.  We are trying to get to.500 OOC.   The Big East is way over .500.  They are still a better football conference.

Good win for the MAC. However, Cincinnati had no business being in the top 25 (two FCS wins, one over an opponent who lost to an FCS team, and none over a team with a winning record lol). I have very little doubt that UC will lose at minimum two additional games this year (Louisville and Rutgers). If Temple can play strong at home in a winnable game, Cinci won't even be bowl eligible until the day after Thanksgiving.

Victory, I think the original poster was looking at the competition between the upper level MAC schools against the upper level BE schools.  UMass is not even a true FBS school this year and is classified as "Transitional."
