Since this is BA official OHIO cheerleader week, I thought I'd ask why not bring back this old cheer out of the '60s?  It's got a lot of punch to it and was one of the most popular cheers back in the day, along with the O-H-I-O, O-H-I-O, OHIO cheer.  The latter survived (in slightly modified form) and the former, for reasons that are unclear, seems not to have.  This cheer also had a certain band number or beat that would signal its beginning.  Perhaps some old-time cheerleader or Marching Men of Ohio member could help with the memory here.  But, regardless, why not bring it back?

If someone can teach me how this cheer goes, I'd love to give it a shot in the Ozone.

My dad (OHIO classes of 70 and 71) is still fond of "Rah Rah Rah, kick 'em in the knee; Rah Rah Rass, kick'em in the other knee" though I think that that was one he and his friends did, rather than a stadium wide cheer

I have a feeling that cheer went the way of finned Chevy's, barbershop quartets, and Wally Cleaver.

Edit: My comment was directed at the "Rip 'em up..." cheer.

Tyler, I think that it was something with about that same cadence.  It was really punchy and fast paced like that.  It might have even been the same tune with that special 110 flavor.

I could do that.  It's not hard!  Also, I contacted a member of the 110 from the 1968-72 period who remembers the cheer.  He does not remember the rouser that the band used too start it, but he will contact some of his other 110 alums and see if he can reconstruct it.

I can do the same.  One of my best friends' father marched in the mid-70's so he may know some people as well.

Since we are reminiscing old cheers, I thought I would share one we used to do in the student section in the '80's, which was always one guy shouting the lines at the top of their lungs, followed by the rest of the student section shouting in unision: "OH YEAH"

I was down by the river, OH YEAH
'bout ready to drown, OH YEAH
Then I thought about OHIO, OH YEAH
Just couldn't go down, OH YEAH

I was down by the station, OH YEAH
Had my head on the tracks, OH YEAH
Then I thought about OHIO, OH YEAH
Just had to pull back, OH YEAH

I was climbing a tree, OH YEAH
'bout fifty foot tall, OH YEAH
Then I thought about OHIO, OH YEAH
Just could not fall, OH YEAH

(the all yell in unision)  Sa sa sa sa satisfy, satisfy my soul!  GO OHIO!

I always liked that, had a soulful, kind of gospel ring to it.  Not proposing it's use, just a nice memory from back in the day.

Its got potential (I'd have to see it in action to be sure)...but it kinda sounds like something our most famous non-alumni should have sang in my favorite movie of his (I'm NOT saying its his best, but I LOVE Cool Hand Luke)

The first time I heard "Rip em up, Tear em up, Give em hell Ohio" was the first game of 1962. Sitting in the student section behind Phi Delta Theta fraternity who usually yelled it about 3 or 4 times when the stadium got quiet. The cheer got louder inversely relative to the volume in the flasks. I immediately pledged. Many others around rolled their eyes. I'm not saying they started it, just that's when and where I first heard it. No blazer clad marching band was required.

That is awesome. If it is the same beat that I am thinking of, this would be awesome for the 110 to play why the Ozone does the chant. Very old school.

As Southeastern Ohio native Wm Tecumseh Sherman said in his famous speech at the Old State Fairgrounds in Columbus, now the Franklin Park Conservatory: "There is many a boy here today who looks on war as all glory, but, boys, it is all Hell."

In memory of old WTS, let's let Miami know that dealing with the Bobcats on the gridiron can be all Hell, too!  Compared to Marching Through Georgia, this should be a piece of cake!

Love what ole Sherman did on his tear thru Georgia in '65 (1865 that is) in his efforts to "Save the Union". He is however one of the most despicable Americans in the history of the country when it comes to his relations in dealing with the Native Americans - Essentially a racist and supporter/enforcer of a genocidal policy that is one of the most horrific, and embarrasing chapters of this countries great history. Fortunately not relevant per OUr game vs Fiami, outside of the fact that they are now known as the "Redhawks", as opposed to the prior racist moniker "Redskins". I give Kudos to Fiami for this humane and respectful gesture.

Per the "Rip'em up......." chant. Maybe only for games that get televised in black & white?................(and have commercials for Chesterfield gigs, Aqua Velva, Chef Boy R Dee, Edsel motor cars, ?)

I don't think you understand how the term "Native American" works.

The PC police have insisted this particular cheer no longer be uttered in public places being that it includes a reference to a place that some might find offensive and a breach of the oft-whined "separation of..." nonsense.

This gives me more motivation than anything to start this chant.

Last season, we talked in basketball about doing a "soccer style" student section chant but it never really came to fruition.  This would be a great thing to reinstate into the O-zone bag of tricks.
