A freaking pass rush!!!!!!

Dysert sucks under pressure and the few times that we lucked into some pressure on him and or the run, FIAMi mostly failed....

Why oh why does this Bobcat team not have some blitzes in the playbook????

And dont give me injuries to the secondary as an excuse because I have been saying this same damn thing for over a year now...it was the same last year.....in fact if I recall right this is exactly how Buffablows and Ball State beat us offensively last year....the QB basically packed a lunch every offensive series and had time to eat it while our D-line got manhandled......

Defense didn't lose this game, though. As bad as falling behind 13-0 early was, the defense gave up only 3 points over the last 35+ minutes of the game.

Not being able to score more than 20 points against a team that allows 500 yards per game ...
and had totaled only five sacks all season but had six today...

That's what lost it.

I understand that our offensive play calling sucked Donkey Kong today but when this is what I see every time the opponents QB drops back...we have problems....

Hut 1...Hut 2...Hut 3....Hike....drop back, check option 1..not there, check option 2....not there...check facebook...check twitter...check option 3 not there...tweet how awesome it is to be beating a top 25 team...then run for 6.......or hit option 8, the asssistant special teams coach for a first down.

Send a rush damnit!!!!

You can make the argument that our D didn't lose it today.  But I can make an argument--a better one, I believe--that starting every game by getting down 13-0 or 14-0 was bound to end like it did (i.e. a premature end to our undefeatedness).  But here's the real problem:

AN APPALLING UNWILLINGNESS TO ATTEMPT TO GET PRESSURE ON QUARTERBACKS WHO WILL HAVE A DIFFICULT TIME MAKING COMPLETIONS UNDER PRESSURE AND WHO ARE QUITE PRONE TO THROWING INTERCEPTIONS WHEN PRESSURED.

c'mon, the D was not the problem today, 23 pts is the least we've given up since Norfolk State. Miami didn't score from 12 minutes left in the 2nd until 1:24 left int the 4th. Miami's 7 offensive drives during that time resulted in 6 punts and 1 turnover. and 5 of those were 3 and out.

NO.

Please do not miss the importance of pass pressure.  Let me give you an example.

Say you're facing a team which is having a really good season.  Perhaps they are undefeaed.  Maybe they're your arch-rival and it's your homecoming and you need the win to have any chance at bowl and conference title game.  Add more passion--you've dropped six straight to these guys and they just became top 25 for the first time in 44 years.  It could be very late in the game when you're up 3 and the opponent has ball at your seven with no timeouts and nine seconds to go.

Perhaps if you get big pass pressure, you somehow..some crazy, pressure induced way...you can make them run out of time and not even be able to attempt the 3-pointer to tie the game.

See, that totally made up scenario is a fantasy example of why you MUST BRING QUARTERBACK PRESSURE.

I agree with Monroe.  We have not consistently pressure QBs this year.  Thought this was going to be one of our strengths but doesn't appear to be part of our scheme.  Related to our new D line coach?

The defence wasn't the problem - should've scored on that long pass in the 4th quarter when we had 1st and goal from the Miami 5 yard line and had to settle for 3. No touchdowns in 2nd half against one of the worst defences in D-I football.

Several times during the tenure of Coach Solich - a football prayer answered for Ohio - he has stated that "this season's team" is his fastest Bobcat squad yet.  So, yes, if that is correct, I have been surprised and distressed to not see that speed put to use more often in pressuring opposing QBs.

When you're down 13-zip midway through first quarter (should've been 17-0 except Treadwell dropped an easy TD pass), your defense is a problem.

Could there be a chemistry issue as well? I notice a few times on the telecast that after a play that was not favorable TT would look over at the sideline and start screaming and showing his displeasure. I appreciate TT's intensity and passion but if he kept cool and collected there might not have been as many mistakes. I am in no way trying to throw TT under the bus, it just struck me as unusual and un TT like to be doing that. Maybe this loss takes away all the pressure?

Just saw some of Browns 7-6 over Chargers.  Browns blitzed some, notably on Chargers' last play (4th and 10 from Browns' 45).  The blitz caused Rivers to throw sooner than he wanted.  Incomplete, game over.

Let's look at it the other way:  We're playing Ohio and we can be pretty sure that they won't blitz, won't pressure our qb much.  Are you pleased with that?

The more I think about it, the more I start the game vs. redhawk by blitzing a lot.  If we're gonna go down 13-0 to start, might as well do it by attacking than being passive.  And I like the chances of such a start totally disrutping redhawk.

I have to agree not having a decent pass rush is really hurting us this year.  In the past we got away with it due to our linebacker and secondary play.  But with the injuries in the secondary a pass rush would definitely help.  It just seems we can't ever recruit or develop any dynamic defensive ends.  I love Corey Hastings as much as anyone, but you aren't getting a dynamic pass rush from a walk-on.

If in fact a chemistry issue has developed, let us hope that the coaches aren't in denial.  Instead, let us hope that it is not going unnoticed and unaddressed.

The EMU game could be more telling than most of us ever expected it might or could be...

I alluded to this in another thread as well...

http://www.bobcatattack.com/messageboard/topic.asp?FromPage=1&ForumPID=6&PID=87225

Unfortunately you could see this brewing when Tyler commented publicly on the play calling.  I don't agree with him doing so but it feels like the coaching staff needs to leave the "man we can't screw this thing up" game plans behind.  They can be stored next to the Knorr files.

There's a reason Tyler's frustrated.  This offense is more than capable of performing like Toledo / NIU...They just need to be allowed to do so.

There comes a time in the development of a program at which you have to accept the fact that you really are that good.  Trust them to run what they show you they can in practice.  Put it on display and scorch the rest of this season!
