Interesting that the game is being played on a Monday at noon.

Do both schools' respective venues have scheduling conflicts?

Noticed that the game is going to be televised. There's no way more than a few dozen people will likely be in attendance?

Organizers get their cash, they really do not care if people are there

So far looks like Toledo & Kent have declined post season invites.

Kent State was bad so that's not a surprise, but Toledo had a real good year. Crazy that they didn't take any post-season tournament.

They apparently had a hell of a time finding participants this year. Their full field is 32 and they got 20. Last year was 26, so it sure seems teams are souring on these as the years go by.

Didn't Ohio have to pay to be in this tournament? And what an odd thing to do when teams are paid to be in the NCAA tournament...

So why then is football different with the bowl games.

Good question. Just like bowl games, there seems to be a number of seemingly unimportant post-season games. Although for football, at least you have:
-A national TV audience
-Less likelihood of competing games overshadowing your game
-Some time in advance for fans to plan for travel
-Only ONE game to worry about for travel (and sometimes it's in a nice place that you really want to travel to)
-Better likelihood that the school breaks even financially
-A reward trip for donors/administrators
-Sponsored swag for players
-Endless message board discussions about whether conference titles impact bowl selections

Good question. Schools never consider turning down bowl games. The only recent one I remember was Notre Dame refused to play in a crap bowl a couple years ago in a 6-6 year (looked it up, it was 2009).

My guess is the difference is exposure. Very few of these third rate basketball tourneys are on TV, or if you are it's not guaranteed each round. Football bowls are on ESPN (and the main ESPN, not an offshoot channel) at a minimum.
