And now there is a report that Stallings has been fired.

Having been in the Pete for my first time two weeks ago, I can relate to how sparse the crowds are in there. I can also relate to the comments about ball screening around the perimter with few actions into the paint. It led to a 1-22 from the floor half against UVA. It's a bad situation there. The move to the ACC, for them, (and for Syracuse) was a terrible idea in my opinion, and clearly the writer for Deadspin agrees.

For hoops, I think the best move they can make is to find the best mid-major coach, or top assistant they can find with fire and energy (Nate Oates?) and stick with him for 3-4 years almost unconditionally.

A smart AD would call Nate Oats. Might even bring a 4 star recruit with him.

Can somebody hit a pull up jumper for me?.....

Bad fit from the beginning. Costs PITT 10 mil to part ways!

I'd have to think he'd be on the list, but they may think they need a "name" coach to recover from the mess they created by hiring, then firing Stallings.

Pitt will find a way out of it for less than 10 mil

It was a ridiculous hire from the word "go." Stallings was a hayseed even by Nashville TN standards. He wasn't even the best college basketball coach in a 2 mile radius of West End Ave. (That distinction goes to Rick Byrd at Belmont)

Oats just signs an extension with UB. He has most of his players returning next year with a couple of high recruits coming in.

Hell of a job by UB to get him locked in. That's bad news for rest of league. Dude knows how to win and recruit 4-star players to Buffalo of all places. He has a chance to go on a Dambrot like run in the MAC with one major difference....I think this guy has NCAA Tourney wins in his future.

Besides the fact that every coach would bolt from the MAC if offered a big time deal at a money league - we're experienced in knowing about this.

Also, isn't it even a little bit fishy to you, or anyone else that he got three 4* kids at UB in one year after barely sniffing them in prior recruiting classes? Kids don't turn down the likes of NC State, Minnesota, VCU, Marquette, FSU, etc. for Buffalo very often. They have three in a year if you count Wes Clark. Hmmm....

One, the Williams kid, is from Rochester, so close to home is a reasonable argument for him. But he also reportedly had an offer from Syracuse. For me, that's odd and worth questioning at least a little bit.

Two thoughts:
(1) So far as upstate NY cities go, Amherst/Williamsville is a LOT nicer than Syracuse, and Buffalo overall is a considerably nicer than Syracuse (and closer to Rochester to boot). Syracuse's campus/uptown area is alright, but if you venture down the hill...best of luck to you.

(2) John Boeheim isn't exactly a spring chicken, and retirement has got to be a possibility in his near future.

Kids are looking for coaches with good energy and places where they can play. Buffalo pretty much less there guards run the show. If they were a little bit more disciplined, they would have beat a couple of top 25 teams this year. They will be a problem until he leaves.

Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. Woody Hayes

Would you suggest that Ohio was cheating if we landed some four-star recruits? Although it seems like a ancient history, it wasn't too long ago that we had some in the pipeline.

I don't pretend to know every single thing kids are looking for when making decisions. Based on recent transfer history though, it seems kids who are really good want to play in the P6 leagues. Totally agree they'll be a problem until he leaves. They have the machine rolling without a doubt.

Fair question - I probably wouldn't because I'm seeing it through green tinted glasses. But to out recruit 5-6 schools that are power 5 or 6, that seems unusual to me. It would be unusual if it happened here. Does it mean they're cheating? Who knows, but it made me wonder the first time I saw the NLI's were signed.
