I just about choked this morning at the Gallipolis Wal Mart when I noticed the preseason basketball publications are already hitting the stands.  Of course I had to buy  them both.

Here are the projections according to both:

Lindys

East

1. Ohio
2. Miami
3. Kent State
4. Akron
5. BG
6. Buffalo

West

1. Ball State
2. CMU
3. EMU
4. WMU
5. Toledo
6. Nothern Illinois

Athlon

East
1.Ohio (NCAA Tourney)
2. Akron (NIT)
3. Kent State
4. Miami
5. BG
6. Buffalo

West.

1. Ball State
2 CMU
3. EMU
4. WMU
5. NIU
6. Toledo

Cooper was projected 1st Team All MAC in both publications.

But what I'm interested to know is, have they released their 2011 football previews yet?  Although I guess the basketball season creeps up faster on you than you think.

How can they even know who is going to be on the rosters for these teams at this point, with the amount of turnover that happens in college basketball?

Lindy's and Athlon are the weakest of the preseason publications.  Very poorly researched.

Any publication that picks the Cats first can't be all bad Jeff.

Sounds like the teams in the hunt for the MAC title will be
Akron- still very deep team led by Mcnees and Brett McKnight. Big frontline and plenty of depth.
Kent State- Green, Sherman and Holt.
Ohio- Cooper, Freeman and Washington plus strong bench.
Miami- Winbush, Mavunga, and Roberts. They should have a deeper bench this year
Ball State- They return a bunch especially Jones. Watch out for them to win west and grab a top seed.
Central Michigan- They got Zeiglar and could be a handfull once he gets it going.
EMU- Bowndry is back and he is dangerous inside.

rebuilding a bit, but still could surprise
BGSU- had big hits in frontcourt losing Polk, Marshall and Larsen
Buffalo- lost Pierce, Betts and Boyer that hurts.
WMU- lost Kool and Lawson.

total disasters
Toledo- Had coach and several players exit from a 4 win team
NIU- Had lots of players exit the program.  Patton has Silas, but nothing around him.

We should be a little better in MAC play. Not sure if we are a lock to earn a bye, but should be in the mix for one.

There's too much balance for us to do anything else but go one day at a time with MAC Basketball.

We're going to get a lot of hype from a lot of places because of how we ended the season, but remember that the majority of last season was a head scratcher.

With this being said, I like our chances. However, I'm nervous anytime we get a target placed next to our name.

Let's GO HAWKS!

Lindy's has Tommy as the best shooter in the MAC, D.J. the best playmaker, and DeVaughn the most versatile. D.J. is first team All-MAC. Sporting News has D.J. as the best passer, Tommy the best shooter, and DeVaughn the best athlete. They also have D.J. first team All-MAC.

Best shooter in THE MAC? Tommy should be in a shoot out with the kid from Portland St and hoffaber from Minnesota for best in the NCAA. The other 2 are purely objective opinions but statistically I suspect Mr Freeman should be measurably than his statistics last year. Would be the year to install a dunk-o-meter and for the o-zone to get cards to grade showtime. Perhaps some way to record steals and assists in the convocation centre a la K's for strikeouts would be appropriate.

In the Tennessee student section, they had the front row wear shirts that said "Turnovers" and the guy at the end had a shirt with numbers he could peel off. So after each TO for the opposing team, they would take off a number and count them. It was awesome.
