Interesting article about the Sun Belt instituting scheduling and attendance requirements. Not sure what happens if teams don't meet either standard.  The Missouri Valley did something like this a few years ago as well.

Based on today's reports, they may want to focus on scheduling tutors rather than games.

I wonder why they are mandating no games against non-D1 teams since they have no effect on RPI.

I wouldn't mind if the MAC did the same thing. I think MAC schools generally put together pretty decent non-conference basketball schedules, but there are exceptions. You're not going to get much respect playing teams with RPIs in the 200s that most people don't even know exist.

Akron would probably have to blow their entire non-conference schedule to pieces and start from scratch if such a directive were issued (at least with what they have scheduled in the recent past).

I think their thinking was that those games eat dates that could be used against better competition.  While the lower games have no negative effect, the games they're replaced with could have a positive effect (or a negative one, if they schedule poor DI programs).

MAC and Sunbelt should work together in scheduling. Both confrences are pretty even in both football and basketball. Competive games that team have a chance to win.  I'd rather play at South Alabama than have a meaningless home game vs Shippensburg or Ohio Valley.  You find out where you team is at playing a division I game.  Beating an overmatched team by 70 doesn't make your players play defense that is needed to win the grind out games that you see in the MAC.  Playing a lot of close games non-conference makes a team better they learn how to value possessions and play hard defense with the game on the line.  Unless your Bryant and you need to get that first win out of the way so that 1-28 record looks better than 0-29.
