Per Groce tweet:
"Schedule is set! Make sure you are in the Convocation Center on October 15th at 7PM......Hardwood Hysteria!"

Day before Homecoming football game (Akron).

I cannot wait for hoops season!!!

I've seen crazier things happen.

Good stuff. I'm glad it's on a weekend where I'll already be in town.

I had read something about it in the season ticket renewal packet - just didn't yet do the work to see if the weekend matched up with football.

Wow, I wasn't even thinking about this basketball season when I will be in town for Homecoming. Looks like it's Hardwood Hysteria and Jackie O's on a Friday night in Athens!

I went last year and was pretty excited but the turnout was roooouggghhh.   I was going to say it would have been great if half the crowd had stayed from the volleyball game but I think 1/8 of the crowd (or even 1/16) would have been a drastic improvement.

Hopefully the team's success last season boosts attendance and enthusiasm for an event like this.

Unfortunately, these things never seem to draw much of a crowd.  I'm a bit surprised they are taking a shot at this again.

Can somebody hit a pull up jumper for me?.....

It could be better than last year with the momentum of the MAC Championship and Georgetown win working for us. They combined this with Yell Like Hell last year. Attendance at the beginning was solid as it was right after a volleyball match and Greek organizations get points towards Homecoming week for attending. What they need to do is shorten the events or remove some of them. Apologies to TapCats, because the girls can dance, but they were a bit out of place at an event like this. Introducing the basketball players (men's and women's) one by one took forever, so they should find a way to shorten that. Also, involve the student crowd a little more. How about some sort of competition leading up to the event and winners get a chance to shoot a halfcourt shot for free books for a year? Finally, make it a requirement that the Greek organizations have to stay through a certain point in the event (and make it a late point or the end) before they can turn in their wristbands and record points towards homecoming. Keep these suggestions in mind, and there should be a better crowd.

EDIT: Just saw there is no home volleyball match that night.

Odd suggestion that may be impossible, but what would it take to set up a temporary court uptown?  Seriously.

I think it's very silly and I'm glad we never did it back in my time. Unless you're Kentucky, it usually gets poor attendance and you don't get out of it what you think you will. I think a better idea is to schedule some worthwhile opponents, at least the best you can at home. That will generate excitement. That, and if you win.

As Borna was fond of saying "you really are an old Curmugeon". Thanks for the water on the fire.

I am happy that the current staff sees the viability of marketing their product and creating a "buzz" surrounding the season.

Good, creative thinking...but methinks that two factors could mitigate against this...tight finances...the ath dept would have to find business sponsors who'd pay for the thing...and secondly, the weather that time of year might not allow it.

But it's not a bad idea at all...

I would think finding businesses on Court Street to sponsor it wouldn't be that tough.  Holding it on Court Street would be automatic business for the restaurants and bars. Plus I'm not sure the cost would be that prohibitive.

Why do you need a temporary court?  Just have them dribble on the bricks...That'd be entertaining!

Not sure if the city would go for it...  Mr. Mayor is against anything and everything related to Ohio University.

They should just have it in the parking lot near Courtside or something. No need to shut the road off for them to play on bricks when a better, flatter and nicer area is a phone call away.

Yeah I bet those Dookies, Musketeers, Tar Heels, Jayhawks, and other leading basketball programs really hate this idea. I didn't think it would be that great of an idea until I saw it at Xavier last year. Lower bowl was almost completely full, and there was plenty of buzz for the season.

Hysteria with the public is a great, necessary idea--espec for a team that just came off a big year and looks to be nice this year.

Joy has got to be part of the equation.

So let's not take advantage of a promotional opportunity because in the end, if by chance the weather does not cooperate it would need to be held as it always has.  I get it, don't change, what we have is good.  Do you work for the railroads?

Describe safety, cost, location/seating/crowd accomodation of uptown court.

Don't know.  All can be answered by someone in the know and are all easy ways of simply dismissing.  Point is, Harwood Hysteria is not about the accommodations, it is about the marketing, the hype, the promotion, the buzz.  Give me fifteen minutes of dunks uptown and ten minutes of Tommy shooting from long distance and the value far out distances something held in the convo.  Can you imagine the fun of Tommy and Cooper playing horse uptown, "okay, from beyond the curb."  You don't even need a full court set up.
