He has looked real good shooting the three and driving to the basket. With his size and length, he can be a real match-up problem. I'm a fan.

We need someone to pick up the scoring slack AB provided late last year.  Initially thought it would be Coleman, then the word was Johnson (still could be).  But it now appears TJ could be the guy that fills this hole.  Still wish he had this year behind Coleman or AB to work into this role, but the guy could be there by mid-season or sooner.  He's certainly not shy.  Would love for him to avg. 8-12+ ppg this season to fill the void.  Early on it appears it may take Johnson a bit longer, but he too appears to have the tools to score consistently in due time.

Plus it appears DJ can add some scoring and while Baltic didn't look as sharp today as in the first game, he will contribute more this year as well.  Kellog too looks to be able to contribute 3-6 ppg.

Water under the bridge now, but Coleman would've been a nice 14-16 ppg contributor this season in my opinion.

I think the good thing about our team this year is that we don't need one of them to pick up 15-20 ppg. We just need all three freshman guards (Hall/Johnson/Kellogg) to combine for 15-20 ppg. I'm confident they'll achieve that easily.

Actually, NOT.

We need a Team that creates scoring opportunities for multiple players. That is infinitely more dangerous. Spreading the ball around in the scheme Groce has put together creates multiple attack points from Devaughn running the floor and getting the ooop while TJ, Ricardo, Nick and DJ benefit from Tommy opening up the middle of the floor by being a constant threat. Ivo, Reg and now Ethan (nice interior passing Mr Sayles) following to the bucket with their hands up or getting the isolation off the quick perimeter passing over to the opposite side provides more than ample scoring opportunities to replace what Bassett brought to the table. The better this Bobcat team executes the pro style up tempo offense the less our Soph Point Guard will need to put things on his back and the more effective he will be. If it falls to our Point Gurad taking over each game we will be more like last year's team in the mid season and less like the team  with specific skill sets Coach  went out and recruited to place around what he inherited.

Groce has assembled the peices and put the system together to compliment each other. Each has roles they need to step into. From what I have observed that is still very rough. My favorite quote pre board meltdown was the AM radio quote about young teams fading in and out as you drive through the night. This is a young and very inexperienced team Freeman, Washington and Sayles will need to step up and guide. DJ is the floor general that makes it go. Patience with those frosh who have never seen the lights and big city as well as the Sophs who are just stepping into their roles will be paramount. Accepting nothing less than excellent exection and bringing guys into the system with the teaching skills Groce honed in the classroom will go much further than one guy putting us on his back and living or dying with the results.

You bring up some good points, but I don't completely agree. We will miss Armon, as much as everyone loves a team offense that moves the ball around finding that good shot, having a guy who will create his own shot and isn't afraid to shoot is always nessacary.

A lot of times that role is frowned upon because everyone wants it and most aren't actually good at it... Armon really didn't execute that role well until the ball movement and team chemistry all fell together last year... When it did, he became a guy to mix the tempo up breaking up zones with his penetration. His shot selection wasn't perfect, but he made up for it by drawing fouls and really causing defenses to change how they played us. That may not have shown on direct assists, but it certainly was a factor in creating open looks for the entire team. Groces style emphasizes creativity over an exact as its drawn up system of plays.. The team we beat first round was the opposite.

What a lot of people wanted from Coleman was a replacement for Armons penetrating and foul drawing ability... Guys like Coleman who have the ability to get tp the rack arent going to be like the rest of the team and swing it around immediately... If we do that, the opposition just plays out the shot clock... We want a fast tempo anyway. Having a good balance of ball movement to create open looks and guys who can differentiate was key last year and will be key this year.

Hall certainly looks like he can fill that role. His shot selection and decision making as to when to drive versus pass needs some improvement, but it will come. For now it looks like the raw ability is there. Cooper has actually shown some flashes too... I think he will absolutely step into that role as needed at years start... Getting Hall to take over will be important though because Coop can do even more if not forced to push the tempo and drive.

I've seen crazier things happen.
