I know it's way too early but I can't help myself. Ohio checks in at #84. The Bobcats strength of schedule is #64. The MAC is 14th among conferences. The conference currently has the #1 strength of schedule. It's opponents' combined record is 202-138.

The MAC:

73 - WMU
84 - Ohio
128 - Ball St.
139 - Buffalo

161 - Miami (OH)

344 - BG (2nd worst RPI in the nation)

The Sagarin ratings have the MAC 17th. Ohio ranges from 113 in the ELO Chess rating (which takes into account margin of victory) to 232 (which does not).

By the time the end of December gets here, I would not be surprised to see the MAC down around the #18-20 level or worse. I hope I'm wrong.

The MAC's utter futility so far reminds me of the really bad season of a couple of years ago.

I do have to say that MAC teams have scheduled well as far as driving up their RPIs without having to play the absolute toughest teams. For example, the teams Ohio has played have fairly good records, but ultimately the computer rankings show those teams probably haven't played anyone all that challenging either to get those records. Of course, it probably is an indication the RPI numbers are going to take steep drops even before MAC play starts.

My mother always told me "you are judged by the company you keep". First it is the MAC in football dropping to the level of the CAA and Southern (according to Sagrin) and now the basketball programs collectively are in at #18.

People have always talked about "parity" at the upper levels but it is becomming more obvious in the Middle where the MAC trolls.

If something doesn't change soon, this Conference will be even more laughable (if that is possible). No wonder a Umass or Temple don't really want to be fully associated with the MAC for b-ball and use the Conference as a stepping stone in football.

All I can say about the Sagrin Ratings is they are the most widely distributed and followed and they are objective and consistently applied. My point is simply over the years the MAC and Ohio have not gone anywhere in these ratings. The fact is we are falling further behind. As I said, the CAA in football and the Ivy in basketball. The parity from the bottom up has caught the MAC. The real bottom line is we are closer to those Conferences than the big 6 ones. Unfortunate.

WOW! Would have never thought I'd be saying that 10 years ago.
