Excellent redemption game all around.

Absolutely had to have this one, and we came through.

I'll never understand why we can't keep the Kansas games close, and it still hurts - but I'm proud that we held strong in the face of adversity tonight.

Huge props to Coach Groce for getting the team to rally, and even bigger props to Hall, Kellogg, and Coop for having gutsy performances. Strong. Very strong.

I agree 100%.   The team could have folded up shop and returned to Ohio with its bobbed tails tucked but they stepped up.  Nice win.   Also nice to see some of the young guns stepping up.  I thought Kellogg, among others,  had a solid night.

We were 26-30 at the line - wow. D.J. and Nick were a combined 18-18. We were 8-21 from beyond the arc. Nine steals with 6 by T. J. Good team win. Now let's beat Marshall on Saturday.

Agreed. Especially in the beginning where we came out with a slow and sloppy start, I think a lot of teams would have folded at that point. I liked the fight that we had when we were down by 9 twice. Huge games by Nick Kellogg, Coop, and TJ...TJ proved tonight that he deserves a bigger role in our rotation and really stepped up with 3man out. Good redemption game, we just gotta keep it and clean up our offense.

This was exactly what this team needed. A game where they needed the freshmen to step up and carry the weight. Getting the freshmen to have an impact where Groce can start and play them big minutes is key. Hall and Kellogg really came thru  tonite. Cooper was fantastic.  Despite getting hammered on the glass we come thru and pull this game out. We were down 9 several times early and it looked like were in trouble, but we cratched ourway back in this and won it late with some defense. We were the ones turning up the pressure and we got the win.  Hope Jay Bilas and the ESPN folks were looking at us at the end and saw how Ohio pulled this one out.

What a nice bounce back against a decent opponent.  Did lots of grunt work to win this one:  Shot and made more free throws that SC, had more steals, had fewer turnovers.  We are playing lots of young guys, so I am ready for a roller coaster over the next 3 months...we'll see how it all comes out in March.

I caught the last ten seconds, but it must've been a great stretch run.  Yahoo had us down 70-66 with about four minutes to go and when I heard Russ the score as 76-72 with five seconds left I thought we were dead.  I nearly jumped out of my chair when I heard OU was ahead.  This team still has issues, but they're showing spirit and character.  Now let's beat The Terd.

Losing by 1 or or 50 plus to Kansas doesn't really matter. Playing them will help our RPI for the season. We need to play more out of confernce teams to do this.

Color commentator and ex-Georgia and UCLA coach Herrick really, really liked TJ Hall as a freshman. Good, good bounce back win for a VERY young squad and this team really needed a positive tonite.

I agree with the Love here.  Nice win that shows the guys can bounce back both mentally and physically.  At their ages, the former is usually harder than the latter.  Nonetheless, great job 'Cats!  Go OHIO!

I'm thrilled that our mid-level NAIA team was able to come back and get this victory. It showed some guts and heart.

Ditto.

My brother (Kansas grad) will never let me forget the 57 point beat-down, but the bounce-back against Santa Clara is a step in the right direction. Great job tonight Bobcats.

TJ Hall is quickly becoming my favorite freshman on the team. 15 points and 6 steals when the team needed someone other than DJ Cooper to step up. 11 turnovers aren't bad at all but I'd like to see the assists with a higher number than turnovers one of these games.

You know that on the season we've had more assists than turnovers 3 times, the same number once, and have had more turnovers than assists for just the two games in Vegas, right?

Last two games must have jut got me in a funk I guess. With Cooper and Kellogg it seems we should never have games in the single digits in assists.

Fair enough -- the Kansas game obviously was an anomaly on a number of levels, but Cooper and Kellogg both appear to have shot the ball a bit more than is typical, which probably leads to the lower assist numbers against Santa Clara.

Against T A&M CC, we assisted 23 of 29 made field goals -- a pretty good percentage.

Two takeaways from this game:
1.  There will be a point when the light comes on for each Freshman that eventually contributes.  I'm hoping tonight was "the game" we look back upon when TJ took a major step forward and continues to progress throughout the season.  He looked much more confident throughout the course of the evening and JC rewarded him with key minutes down the stretch.  I think Kellog has had similar nights and tonight was a nice bounce back after the previous rough outing.
2.  At some point JC will begin finding "go to" combinations. Right now he appears to be trying a little of everything trying to see what's going to gel the best.  Tonight I saw him go with the following lineup during crunch time and they played well together:
DJ
Kellog (and/or Tommy in the future)
Baltic
Washington
TJ Hall
I too wonder if tonight was the night we learned that this combination works well together.

Thankfully we won and the Love is not a guy who goes to extremes.

Kellogg played a pretty good game and took charge out there at points.

The key sequence:  From about 2 minutes to go in the first half until about :30 to go in the first half 'Clara took at least four shots and got at least three offensive rebounds over one time down the court (one possession).  But we hustled, played some D, contested.  And they did not score.

With a minute or two to go in the game, DW went sky high and grabbed a defensive rebound that no one else went for.  For that moment he looked like the guy who put would not be denied over the last so many games last year.  He needs to play like that.

On the matter of assists...As anorris pointed out, we assisted a high percentage of our made FGs in the few games before going to Vegas.

Out there, our percentage of assisted FGs dropped dramatically...not just vs.Kansas, but also vs. Santa Clara.  Against SC, there was a high percentage of FG attempts taken by guards as compared to up front players.

I'd like to see us get back to trying to establish a low post presence and getting more shots for Baltic, Keely and Washington.  Maybe we didn't think we had the matchups to do that vs. SC.

I'd also like to see us get back to assisting a high percentage of our FGs, not relying so much on individual play by our perimeter players.

Having said that, the SC win was gutsy and maybe we'll look back on that win later in the season as an important win.

I think we need to get Kellogg into the starting lineup and keep him there. My starting five would be:

1. Cooper
2. Kellogg
3. Freeman
4. Washington
5. Keely

Baltic and his energy would be great as the first guy off the bench. Depending on the matchups we then see Hall, Johnson and Sayles as part of the rotation.

Right in front of us (we were in the first row) Keeley got double-teamed and lost the ball on what was called a turnover, though we could clearly see that he got hacked hard on the forearm.

Next time down the court, a 'Clara player was getting double-teamed in front of us after taking a rebound.  Same ref called the 'Clara player for travelling.  Didn't see any travel.  Seemed a pretty clear make-up call.

The refereeing was pretty good overall in L.V.

Derrick Williams for Arizona is a beast.  Program listed him as a guard at 6'8".  He played power forward from the wing, taking it effectively and strong to the hoop and also knocking down long jumpers.  NBA.
