"Hopefully this will be something that will build a resilience for us," CMU head coach Ernie Zeigler said of the losing struggles and its effect on the team. "Sometime you have to be cognizant of their psyche and right now it is about loving them, keep pushing them and get back in here and prepare for the next one. We are putting ourselves in a position to compete. Hopefully we can learn from these losses."

Hmmm...whistlin' past the graveyard or what?

And what he's probably thinking but not saying "and hopefully I can replace these 4 seniors with some serious talent next year to play alongside my son...."

Can somebody hit a pull up jumper for me?.....

I watched some of their game last night and Trey was as much of the problem as the rest of the guys. I thought Jalin Thomas and Amir Rashid were their best two players last night.  Zeigler seemed like he was forcing it at times.  It was almost like he knew that he could play at a higher level and was out to prove it.

I was hoping that Jalin would land at ohio some way or another. He went to my highschool and we had a pretty good squad. Good old Bloom Carroll high...to bad our tallest player was 6 4 and we had to play bj mullins. anyway thats way off topic sorry.

You're a Bloom Carroll guy? I'm a Heath grad myself. Lots of good basketball and baseball games with you guys.

Our HS Alma Maters square off friday.  The only thing that could keep me from going to an LE/BC game would be the trip to Louiiiiiiiiiisiana.

I hope Jalin does well in college  though (short of beating the Bobcats of course).

To quote Shannon Sharpe (I think): The only thing you learn from a loss is how to lose.

We will get by.
We will get by.
We will get by.
We will survive.

If Shannon Sharpe said that, he's wrong. Any great successful person will tell you they failed or lost many times before thay got it right.

Just to clarify why I posted this:  It's not that I disagree with what Coach Ziegler said...it's just that I thought it was a little amusing that he departed from the usual coachspeak to say "cognizant of their psyche."  How often do we hear that?

Actually, I won't be surprised to see Central competing for MAC titles when they get things figured out this season.  They had a good recruiting class in addition to Trey Z.

Is Bloom-Carrol still coached by the lead singer of the Heartbreakers? If so, the guy's been around forever. Always enjoy reading his name in the Dispatch.

Yup, Petty is still coaching.

Care to make a wager on this, Jeff? I think "coach" Ziegler has more than proved he's not very good. If this conference wants to get better at hoops, it can start by not giving guys like this a fifth year given his first four.

His record:
2006-07 = 13-18  RPI 227
2007-08 = 14-17  RPI 184
2008-09 = 12-19  RPI 297
2009-10 = 15-15  RPI 195
2010-11 =  2-7     RPI 281

His record didn't merit a contract extension. Could it have been more about the recruitment of his son, Trey?

Judging by his record, that would have to be it.

I ain't gonna wager you, Ted, because you could very well be right.  But they did bring in a very talented recruiting class this year...so we'll see if this influx of talent makes the difference.

Maybe he lacks "those intangibles."  Ahem.

I hope you're right Jeff and they become a Top 100 team. But I'm of the thought that you are what your record says you are. There may be no job more measurable than that of a college head coach. You shop for the groceries and prepare the meal. I just don't know how you get to year 5 with a guy and say you're hoping his recruiting class pans out. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to send a royalty check to Bill Parcells.

Chalk up one more piece of evidence for the Ted Thompson point of view on Ziegler after Detroit embarrasses Central at Central.

And . . . . CMU just lost to S. Dakota St. on a 3 at the buzzer.
