Bad defense, not making shots, and a hot shooting Temple

Defense has not been that great for the Cats, especially against the 3, lots of missed shots that should have been made by the team. Reggie was especially bad on offense tonight so far, but other than DJ and Devo no one was really contributing, haven't seen Tommy get open once yet. Add on to the fact that we don't seem to be taking advantage of the fouls we keep putting on Temple. And then you have Temple just killing it at 3 for the first time all year. I really didn't need a game like this after witnessing New Orleans in person.

Not sure where everyone was on the offensive side of the ball outside of Cooper, Washington, and Baltic. Without looking at the stats, those 3 had to have 90% of our points tonight.

I have never seen a team that misses more layups than our Bobcats. It's been that way all year long. That and we don't have one player who is money on a 15 foot jumper.

We had soooooo many chances to win this game. What was keely doing tonight. He didn't come to play and he should not of been playing that was ugly....This team can be good, they showed sparks of it. And we couldn't buy a three pointer tonight.

Hearing Russ whine all night about Temple hitting 3's was really disturbing. If you are wide open (due to no evident defensive plan) you are expected to make those shots. No evidence of any clue on rotataion (T.J. Hall needed to sit a lot more tonight). No ability to make a big play when the game could have actually been close (rebounds, shots, guarding someone on an inbound play). I think if the coaching staff's were switched, the outcome would have been much different tonight. FOUR home losses in the non-conference schedule is something that is not acceptable. Can get Temple and oakland (a bit), but Marshall and IUPUI? Nothing positive, besides Devaughn waking up, came out of this game tonight. Starters, bench, and coaching staff need to take a tremendous step up if this season will be any sort of success.

This team desperately needs another scorer. Its going to be a long year. We need some productivity out of the 2 or 3 spot, Coleman and Basset would have made an immeasurable difference.

This is the first game that I've been able to attend in two weeks. I attended with my son-in-law, and I remarked to him after the game that we could have won the game if half of our missed point-blank layups had gone in. From what you're saying this has been a problem in some other games in that last few weeks? If so, that's not a good sign.

Another unrelated question: Russ said at one point that Temple had the worst three-point shooting percentage of any team in the nation. Could this possibly be true? If so, it says something not too good about our perimeter defense that Temple hit so many tonight.

Temple came into the game shooting a meager 25% from 3 as a team. Wyatt, the player who knocked down four threes in the first half, had previously hit 3 of 13 from 3 for the year. Our defensive strategy was to collapse inside and take our chances on their three point shooting. It was a logical idea, but unfortunately, it backfired.

Love Keely's drop step to the basket. He has the ball in two hands when he starts that move. Any other point in the game I am getting scared everytime the ball gets close to him. He needs some "stick um", maybe some Ginko Biloba for better concentration too.....

Temple played a pretty flawless game - and we still had a shot. They moved the ball around great - we got stuck in nuetral too often.......

Washington and Baltic had good games - and I thought if we could get good efforts from a couple of our bigs we would have a chance - well, we had a chance.....

I liked Ivo Baltic tonight. Very nice game. Showed some confidence. And, seemed under control. Good stuff.

He and Devo are trouble if a team plays man D. We won't see much man D though. I'd go zone against us.

Temple took Freeman out of the game. That left TJ Hall and Cooper to hit threes and they didn't. Throw in the bizarre turnovers and bizarre missed shots by our bigs and that's the story.

The team seemed prepared and the effort was there. The execution....well.....

Can somebody hit a pull up jumper for me?.....

Aside from the loss, I actually liked what I saw tonight. Temple is a good team and Groce had a pretty good defensive game plan. They just shot lights out from the perimiter and as the defense had to stretch, it opened up the easy layups underneath later in the game. I like that some other players scored. That will be needed later in the year. I never thought the gameplan on offense would be to punch the ball into Devo, Reggie and Ivo, but it worked. Those guys all played pretty well around the hoop but many of the shots just did not drop. A little more confidence and aggressiveness will grow as the year goes on. Those layups will start going in. I am not happy about a loss, but there were some positives that came out of tonight's game. Now just work on defensive rotations and boxing out on FT attempts.

As some have said above, Temple is a terrible outside shooting team that had a hot night -- the defensive plan was to take away the inside and force them to shoot jumpers. Unfortunately, they made a lot of them. They also made several just plain luck shots.

We were in this game deep into it. Not sure what the deal is with missing some of the inside shots -- we look a bit timid out there at times, almost afraid to take it strong. Nice game by DeVaugn, pretty good crowd, much better than I expected. Just wish they hadn't sold my seat.

I get that Devo had a good scoring night....But his effort on the defensive side of the ball pretty much nullified that for me.

Also, I get that DJ is quick and athletic...But I fail to see why he should be the top rebounder in any of our games. Devo should be an 8-10 rebound a game player and he consistently under-performs in that area.

Ivo came alive in the second half which was nice to see - he had some really beautiful finishes around the paint.

I've wondered all year if we will be able to survive a cold night from behind the arc down the stretch - tonight didn't ease my mind at all, really. If we finish at the rim and ratchet up our defense I don't think it will be a problem, but those are a couple decent-sized "if's."
