Just in time for Wednesday's game, I have a new story about the cluelessness of Temple basketball players (Cosby excepted).  My wife and I were on a cruise from San Diego to Hawaii and back the last two weeks.  Below is an event that occurred on the next to the last day full day of the cruise (Friday, cruise ended on Sunday):

To make a long story short, my wife and I participated in the 5K deck Walk for the Cure.  We dedicated it to my sister -- a survivor.  Most of you may not know it but I'm a very fast walker.  My wife and I lapped everyone ahead of us about three times at least.  We kept careful track of our laps (12 = 5k).  While we passed up numerous folks no one ever passed us.  By the time we finished the guy keeping track of the laps had left his post, so no official "first place" was actually awarded.  But, we knew we were first.  The next day my wife ran into this other woman who said her husband had finished first.  My wife was taken aback and asked how could this be since he never passed us.  This dude's wife just said he was a real stud former basketball player from Temple and that he'd won.  It's what's in your mind rather than facts that matters to Temple guys, I guess

Let me point out that the competition on this walk probably had an average age of 75, and some were walking with canes.  But there were a number of walkers who were younger than either my wife or I and were walking briskly, but we passed every last one of them at least two times.  This is of those who finished, many dropped out after a few laps. The aforementioned Temple basketball player's wife was judged by my wife to be about our age (mid 60s).

Edit: MH55, were you on this cruise?

Why would they lie about that? It's not like they were saying they had degrees from Yale or something else worthwhile.

So, MH55, were you on the cruise or not?  Did you play basketball at Temple?  My guess is that you were the waterboy but tell people you earned a letter and were a big star.

Never cruised or played bb at Temple. Would have been tough, the year I graduated we were #1 in the country for 2.5 months, 1988. We lost in the regional final to Duke when our all time leading scorer Mark Macon was shut down.

I havent visited this board because playing and beating the MAC in BB doesnt do much for me. Before everyone goes bananas again, I stopped trying to explain what Temple brings to the MAC 3 years ago. MAC people just dont want to hear it but we are bringing a Top 25 team into your arena. Temple is #19 RPI and should beTop 25.
The deal was give us the opportunity to improve our FB Program in exchange for our prominent BB teams agreeing to a series with the MAC and everytime a MAC team plays us, their RPI goes up and ours drops....regardless of outcome. Our women's team has never lost to a MAC opponent since the series began. Beat Ohio two weeks ago there by 25.

When we play teams with RPI's in the mid 200's ie Toledo, NIU, etc or beat Akron by 35 on our own floor, it does nothing for us. These games are complete trap games for us. I have no doubt that Ohio will come out with their hair on fire. They have nothing to lose. When Temple comes into your arenas, its probably the best team your players will host at home in their MAC careers..I suppose we should be grateful your RPI is 127, our last road game was against CMU coming in at 279. We won by 10 and saw our RPI slip

Feel free to apply that to everything.

Well, that didnt take very long. If MAC Basketball could produce an at large worthy bid (which they havent been able to do in 10 years) maybe playing/beating Temple might help make their case.

I rest my case.

Except that's not true and the MAC produces an at-large worthy team often.  Go out and learn something.

No offense but I don't get the point of the story.. Two people were arguing over who won in a cruise ship walk populated by older people with canes?
Seriously?

Doesn't really matter, you were arguing about a race in which the only thing the first person gets to say was that he finished first, no prize or trophy and it was a charity thing.

Any smack talk against Temple is almost as good as smack talk against Oxford Tech.  Temple = the new Miami wannabe.

This story could be set in Del Boca Vista and the argument would be between Morty Seinfeld and Frank Costanza.  Happy Festivus to all that participated in the 5K walk!

The inconsistencies in your story are making me take this topic even less serious than I would have originally!
