Hey Everyone, sorry about the OT thread but I thought this might be one of the best places to get some advice.  I'm going to try and hit an OSU basketball game next month (MSU @ OSU) but I don't know anything about getting tickets to their games and I figure some of you might.

Are they sold out constantly or can you go to the box office?  Do they release a last batch of tickets shortly before games like some other schools?  What's the scalping scene like?  Any guidance would be great.  Thanks to anyone who can help.

As a bonus, I have an extra Hoops Action ticket (gf has to work) for the Miami game on Sunday.  Anyone need one?  PM me and we can work something out.

I would look on the internet for tickets. MSU vs OSU sounds like a pretty good game so who knows if its not close to sell out already. My dad has season tickets. I would see what i can do to get ahold of them but im pretty sure he is going to that one.

I don't think Ohio State sold out any games last year, but they came close for a few times on Saturdays against big-time opponents. So I assume that means you can purchase tickets from the university, but as was mentioned, you might check to see if people are selling better tickets for a better value.

Ohio State uses Ticketmaster, and they also promote their own secondary market place for tickets called Buckeye Exchange.  Stubhub is a great tool as well.

Yeah, someone told me that due to the nature of the arena and fan interest that OSU basketball games almost never sell out.  MSU will be a big game, especially with OSU's success; however, it's not a prime Saturday afternoon game.  It's like 9pm on a Tuesday.

Thanks JCW, I've never used StubHub but it's high time I try it out.  It's pretty secure and reliable?

I've used Stub Hub several times for Cincinnati Reds games and was highly successful.

You should become a Pirate fan.  They are about one season away from paying fans to show up.  Stub Hub is unnecessary @ PNC.

I buy and sell all the time on stub hub. The % is high when you sell and can bite, but a well run operation.

I agree with JCW's take on StubHub. Very well run and easy to use. The transaction costs are high (I think they take 25% from the seller and tack on 10% to the buyer). But you do have the functionality of just keying in your bar code, so you can sell tickets at the last minute and you don't have to take the time/gas for meets or the risk that the meet doesn't show up. And you can see exactly what tickets in the same section are selling for. As Jeff said, you can get some pretty good deals (below face) as a buyer for games that aren't in high demand. A pretty cool marketplace actually. In this barcode age, you also know you have a valid ticket.

Was talking with someone New Year's Eve who bought tickets for her husband off StubHub for the Bengals/Eagles preseason game. She lost the tickets during the tailgate. The Bengals wouldn't reprint the tickets since they weren't bought from them and she couldn't connect with the original seller to give the Bengals approval. However, she called StubHub and they gave her complete credit for the purchase for a future game. Something they didn't have to do at all.

Also, if you do the sticker option from stub hub and lose them you just have to find another computer and reprint the tickets, as I had to in St. Louis this summer. I simply walked to a hotel across from the ballpark and reprinted my tickets at their business office.

I scored 4 Cubs playoff tickets a few years ago.  Sold 2 on StubHub for $750, and essentially got paid $500 to go to the game...Which seemed fair given how awful they played.

Thanks Everyone.  I ended up buying five tickets through the OSU box office.  They're nosebleeds but they were $20/seat and no worse than what was available on stubhub for $10-$60 more.  Weird that way.
