Yeah, Dambrot didn't hold back at all on the postgame scrutiny of the guys he coaches. I'm not sure how I would have handled it, but probably wouldn't have said anything to the effect of 'all of my players suck'. I got a good chuckle out of his comments on Zeke Marshall though. And he did in fact look nothing like a double double guy last night.

I particularly liked Dambrot on their PG Abreu's play... "he started out well... them made some dumb dumb plays"

As I said in my other post, Dumbbrat threw just about everyone under the bus except for the kangaroo.  He made it clear it wasn't the coach's fault.

This has maybe been brought up before, but at no point did Elton Alexander use 'Ohio." It was "Ohio University" in the lead and "OU" every time after that, which is completely ignoring the request of the athletic department.

The headline says:

Hot-shooting Ohio breezes past Akron, 79-70, in men's basketball

The reporter who writes the article and the headline writer are usually not the same person. EA's headline would probably read something like

AKRON BUNGLES GAME AGAINST OU

I wish someone associated with Ohio would have directed some very pointed trash talk at Elton last night after the game.  After all, with his mid-season re-rankings of the MAC teams, he trashed Ohio and ranked them dead last in the MAC East.

I took your original post as a defense of Elton Alexander in response to UpSan's post.  My point is Elton Alexander did not write and probably never saw that headline before it was published.  He did not use the appropriate reference for OUr school ; the headline writer did.

Bingo. Elton had nothing to do with the headline.

I've actually brought this up to my editing professor at Scripps this year.

Me:  "Well, I know the AD prefers the use of Ohio rather than OU in headlines and stories and such..."

Professor:  "Well let's be honest journalists don't really follow that or listen to those requests that often, they don't get to tell us what to write"

I paraphrased that, but in essence...no one really cares what people prefer, I suppose.

Now you know!

This is true, but most papers around the region do follow the request and it has become the standard practice. And they did follow it in the headline, but not in the story. It seems kind of tacky. What other school in the world would you refer to in a sports story by their initials, especially when you can refer to them properly in just about as little space?

What other school? We can start with one that has the same initials .... Oklahoma.  They're referred to OU all the time.

Maybe it's just me but I fail to see why people get so worked up over something so trivial. Personally I'm more interested in the outcome of the game at Akron rather than if some journalist referred to us as OU.

And to take it a step further the University has plenty of references to OU on the web site.

Example: http://www.ohio.edu/compass/stories/10-11/1/press-series-...

So if being called OU is so undesirable then it would seem that we should start at home with referring to us only as Ohio.

Look at the College Book Store; again OU is all over the web site including "What's New at OU" on the main page.
