If you click on the WEBCAST link to the BG site and go to upcoming games, you will find we are listed as THE OHIO State Bobcats. This from a fellow MAC site no less!

I guess the good thing is that BG is a slightly below average rebounding team, but then again so was Miami.

Just so long as that Samarin guy or whatever his name was doesn't go wild on us.  Still irked by that game several years ago at BG when it was clear that he was their offensive threat and we lost doing nothing to stop him.  I think he scored about 80 that game.  He's probably gone.  But maybe his son's on the BG now.

The Cats size up with them pretty well.  The have a 6-10 guy (Cameron Black) but he's a frosh and averages only 21 minutes a game.  No one else over 6-8.  Scott Thomas is the guy to look out for: 7 rebs and 10 ppg.  The have 3 guys who avg double figures, but they're at just ten per game.  Little need to guard the perimeter; they take about 15 threes a game and hit only 27%; they've made 71 on the season while Freeman alone has made 50.  Two of their top three scorers are forwards, so Washington et al will have to come up big.

Jeff--I won't believe it until I see it.  I'm quite sure BG banked some of his eligibility so he can come out and go for 40 each half on us with us not figuring it out that it might be a good idea to guard him.

Defense?  It's optional!

Uhhh yeah, you can say that again.  It's only been 4 years since he played for the Falcons.

Man am I worried about that Chris Kaman kid when we play CMU later.

As I said before, Samarco simply couldn't be guarded at times. How exactly do you defend against a corner three whilst falling out of bounds? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=inuxnQ0uDM4

I think the best thing for Ohio Basketball in Anderson Arena is to hope they finish the new place soon, because I'm not sure there's an arena where we've done worse in.

Martin Scorsese would probably score 28 against us in that gym.

I saw us lose there to a pathetic BG team in the late 1980s when some talentless munchkin named Brian Rose(?) hit a three-quarters court shot with one second remaining.  As we were exiting the arena, my wife thought she'd relieve the tension by throwing an iceball at me from 30 feet away - hit me in the temple and I went down like a ton of bricks.

Didn't relieve the tension.

BG has a "munchkin" who I'm sure the O-zone will have fun with on BG's visit to The Convo. Jordon Crawford is 5-6, but he is a pretty good player.

Crawford's no slouch. In the 2009 regional final, he ran circles around my Princeton Vikings who started Marquis Horne (remember that guy?), Orlando Williams (Fiami), Stefon Johnson (Gardner Webb) and Jordan Sibert (Ohio State). Danny Mcelroy, who's also at BG, was a high school classmate of Crawford at LaSalle and was long regarded as the big star at LaSalle (he committed to Cincinnati as a freshman), but Crawford is making a bigger impact.

Bowling Green has been getting barely over 1,000 fans on weeknight games. Might be a little more for MAC play and with the team performing well recently, but I doubt there is an announced crowd of 2,000, even with my wife and I there. BG has won 5 of the last 6 and 6 of its last 8. That was after a 1-8 start with its only win being against Ohio Dominican. It seems the Falcons have things moving in the right direction.

Dee Brown, A'uston Calhoun and Scott Thomas average 10.4, 10.4 and 10.3 ppg, so they have good balance. Thomas is their best player, though. He leads them in rebounds (7.3), assists (3.4) and steals (2.4). He can shoot a little (30 percent) from outside.

Calhoun has been big in MAC play so far, averaging 16 a game, though he has started only two games this year. BG has not shot well this year from anywhere on the floor, and although the Falcons have been much better from the floor overall in MAC play, they still haven't shot free throws or 3-pointers well.

BG has good size. They start 6-10 Cameron Black, but lately Calhoun (6-7) has been getting most of the minutes alongside Thomas (6-7). They also start Danny McElroy (6-8) and that could be a challenge for Freeman/Hall to be guarding a much bigger player.

Brown (6-3) and Joe Jakuboski (6-2) usually start at guard, but Jakubowski hasn't shot real well this year, and Jordon Crawford has been getting a lot more minutes lately. Luke Kraus (6-2) has been getting more minutes recently and had a good game against Miami.

If we correct the rebounding issue and shoot well, it very well could be a big win for us, but BG easily could dominate if we have an off night shooting and dont' rebound again.

BTW, BG is supposed to announce a major gift to its basketball program before the game tonight. Word on the street is that it will be more than the $8M donated for the Stroh Center.

Anyone know if the video webcast is free? Hopefully channelsurfing will find the game if it isn't.

The coolest thing about Anderson Arena is that Nate Thurmond and Howie Komives played there for the Falcons. It's like a HS gym in that the basket on one end is right against the wall. When you first see it as a player, it freaks you out a little bit. They never draw a crowd.

Apparently, they drew 2200 in their game against Miami this past weekend. Tickets were sold for $1 and it was their biggest crowd in a few years. They desperately need the Stroh Center, but even then, it may still be the smallest arena in the MAC.
