does it have a new meaning now?

Let''s hope this starts a new trend of winning league games in away venues.  Now, if we can only figure out how to defend the house!

Lot of good takeaways from that game.  Shooting, assists, etc.

Cooper with 15 assists and 5 makes was accountable for 20 of our 27 field goals.

Shooting was out of this world.  52% from 3 as a team for a game?  Wow.  Not a small sample size, either.

21 assists on 27 field goals.  THAT sounds like running the offense, no?

Nick shooting out of his mind, 4 threes to start without a miss, and 6 of 9 overall.  Freeman 5 of 8.

Only 4 offensive rebounds, which is low for this team, but it's hard to get on the offensive boards when the shots all fall.

Thanks, anorris, for the nice summary.  Watching the game on channelsurfing.net it was kind of hard to see sometimes exactly who was doing what.  It was clear though that the green-clad guys were scoring more often and playing a better game than the white-clad guys.  But, the ending was a little too tenuous for my liking. All and all it was a good outing for the Green & White.  Go OHIO!

Live by the 3 die by the 3. I dont mind this and see with our post game that this is our best option, however if we shot 25% some would be moaning about the number we shot. With our post game we have to win games from the perimeter. Akron sat on DJ and tried to keep him from getting his shot, which opened it for other guys. Great win! Akron let Tommy and Nick spot up and do what they do best!

Just walked in from the JAR--obviously a fun game to attend and we had more green in the JAR than Miami had red in the Convo.

Akron was very sloppy with numerous unforced TO's and their defense was awful covering the corners while the two hot hands were getting great feeds from DJ.  That several moment stretch where Kellogg drained 3 quick threes was thrilling as  OUr players were looking for him and not even considering whacking away themselves while he was so hot.  The perimeter ball movement was outstanding.

Looks like there may be a grudge forming with DJ and McNeese as McNeese whacked DJ in the eye on a long rebound and DJ was quickly cut off by an official that noticed DJ wasn't too pleased with the altercation.

What was the technical all about--could only see Freeman holding his nose and Dambrot going nuts when Ohio got the ball to inbounds after Freeman splitting his free throws?

Freeman caught an elbow to the face, thus the flagrant foul.  As Russ and Rob pointed out on the radio, it's a point of emphasis for this year:

Page 20 in this NCAA rules for 10-11 season  wrote:

Excessive Swinging of the Elbows

Last year, there were increases in excessive swinging of the elbows. This

action should not be ignored because of the associated danger to another

player. Contact resulting from an illegally thrown elbow can cause serious

injury. Consequently, excessive swinging of the elbow(s) is a point of

emphasis.

When the arm and elbow, with the shoulder as a base (pivot) are swung

with a speed that exceeds the rest of the body as it rotates on the hips or on

the pivot foot, that action is considered to be excessive. Contact, after such

an action, shall not be ignored but shall be called a flagrant foul. When the

player’s arm(s) and elbow(s) are swung excessively but without contact, a

violation has been committed.

As a sidebar and not to take away from the excitement of the evening, but did anyone have trouble listening to the WXTQ radio feed?  Mine was very choppy and tough to listen to with lots of pauses every few seconds.  On the plus side, for some reason the radio feed was pretty close to the channelsurfing feed the second half.  Usually they're 30 seconds or so apart and you already know what's going to happen next.

Did you try the ohiobobcats.com stream, by chance?  It is sometimes better than XTQ's, and vice-versa.

George, it's a good thing we have Ohio Sports Network affiliate 1450 AM here in Parkersburg for us to listen to the games on.  I turned it on last night at 7:00 and got country music.  They did not even put the game on.  I had to listen to WXTQ which has awful reception east of Coolville.  I was in my car and couldn't listen online.

JCW,  I am one of those (older) guys that think that if you are dying you should try something different.  That is all I ever meant in my moanings when shooting lots of 3's without much success.  I get the fact that our options may be limited but that is the point.  My frustration is that our options are limited. I think we would all like to have the options to make adjustments when one thing isn't working well.

Distribution of the ball, for whatever reason, is, generally, a good thing.

A GREAT VICTORY is pretty good medicine :)

Sometimes your opponent has a say in how well you distribute the ball, I agree if something does not continually work you should examine what you are doing, however I am not the guy who is going to throw the players and coaches under the bus after a bad game.

What is really funny about this thread is we took more 3's against Akron than Miami, however people scream bloody murder when we miss shots. The only difference in our offense was the shots fell against Akron. Against Miami Nick was 1-5' if he's on he would have played a bit more, Tommy took one less shots against Miami, but Miami had a big hand in taking him away.

Did you ever consider the shots fell because we created better shot opportunities and created those oppurtinities for our higher percentage shooters?  Movement, distribution, using the shot clock, sticking to designed plays better...All things that were better last night.  It wasn't like we had the exact same shot selection and they just happenned to fall at Akron.

Yeah I was at practice the other day and they were putting in a brand new offense and I heard coach tell DJ he was limited to 12 shots a game. The difference in the two games is that Akron did not throw a wet blanket over our set shooters like Miami did.

It's really not that simple...Maybe Akron didn't guard Tommy/Nick as tight as Miami, but if that is the case, DJ should be able to find more open looks in theory or the bigs should be able to do more down low.  It's all about responding to the defense better and optimizing high percentage shots.  And you can't convince the overall movement on offense wasn't better against Akron.

Good win and fun game to watch on channelsurf.

However, I doubt OUr team shoots 52% from three-land on the road (or at home) in every game from here on out.  And, we did give up 16 offensive boards to Akron to go along with 20 to Miami.  That's gotta get better!

The one thing about shooting is it comes and goes. You really can't control it like you can rebounding and defense. How many times have you watched a game and see guys taking good shots but they don't go down? It's obviously better to take good shots than bad shots, but you can't rely on shooting to win consistantly.  It's unlikely that you'll make 52% of your 3s that often.

JCW, I noticed you forgot to answer my earlier post on this topic, so I'll ask you here once again:  How many seasons does JG get before you agree that the lack of talent excuse has run thin?

And since you apparently don't believe that Kellogg, Hall, or Johnson are capable of doing anything other than spot-up shooting (despite their HS and AAU performances to the contrary), why is it that JG recruited three players with the same limited skill set in the same recruiting class?

I look forward to you responses.

5 years.  Sorry did not mean to not answer your question.  This program was very very down in talent when JG took over, our talent is improving, hell they guy has one MAC Title and some of you want him out of town on the next bus.  Give it up, he is working hard, his staff is working hard and making strides.
