If just a few more folks had made their way down Richland Avenue, we would have the first sell out in years.  Seriously though, it was a great atmosphere in the Convo today.

Watching the game on TV I was thinking about how great the Convo looked. When a game is broadcast in Peden its obvious Bobcat football isn't in the big time, but a bball game from the Convo looks as good as any other arena, imo.

And when you look at Miam's arena that opened a day before the convo but looks decades worse for wear, or the middle school gym that BG plays in now, only to be prelaced with a slightly better 5K seat gym, or the Jar, etc etc.. we've got a good set up on Richland.

now if we can just learn to play 40 minutes and protect our house...

The Convo is a beautiful basketball arena, and a great deal of care has gone into keeping it looking good, renovating it in spots, and keeping it modern.

As an Ohio University alum, as far as actual structures go on campus, that is one place I take a lot of pride in.

So much has changed on this campus in the past 10-15 years, but the roundhouse on richland still rocks.

Convo looks great on TV -- would look even better, IMO, if the arrangement was flipped and the cameras pointed at the students.  There were people all the way up to the skybox the past couple of games.  It really is amazing to think that the Convo and Millet are of the same era -- certainly doesn't feel like it when you're in them.

That number is higher than the average for such programs as Missouri, Pitt, Texas A&M, Iowa, Clemson, Cal, Washington, Duke (of course it has limited space), Notre Dame, Cincy, Arizona State, Baylor, Florida State, Oregon, Stanford and Auburn.

Of course, this was just one game, and those are season average numbers, but it still shows we've got great fan support.

anorris is absolutely right!  The camera should be on those students.  Somebody needs to inform the athletic administration that with all the tv and internet games on now, you need to look your best and that picture would give viewers an insight into being an Ohio student is all about.  Change it now!

Then, we just need to win some games!

One problem is the Convo is not set up to show that side of the arena.

And what sell premium bleacher seats? Put them behind the scoters table? Or do you want to move them too?

Obviously it isn't setup for it -- that was kind of a man, I wish they'd set it up 180 degrees the other way when the place was built comment.

Why not?  Or move the media and cameras to the other side.

But, don't TV folks like to point cameras at the bench side of courts?

I taped the game.  Watched it.  Not enough shots of the Ozone side.  Convo looked good and full, but I didn't feel any energy watching.  Of course, it was an uninspiring first half, and disaster second half.  So, maybe that's it.

The issue with moving cameras to the other side is the position of the SkyBox, which is the platform for the up cameras, and the media tables, which usually have the slash camera position and talent positions.  Plus painting the court and such.

This was merely an off-hand comment, no need to over-analyze.

The other solution would be to actually fill the other side the way the student side fills in -- which would be even better, since student income flows to the programs whether we show up or not, but it is the opposite side that creates new cash flow into the department.

Sections 1,2, 3 and 4 (courstside) are sold out to season ticket holders.  The vast majority of the seats in the four behind those sections,  sections 101 - 104, are also sold out.  The issue is that many of these folks just don't show up all of the time, particularly in section 103.

Alan...which is to the point of the post.  Why have TV show the side where half the people show up for games?  Hasn't anybody seen a Duke game on TV?  seeing the students gives you an image of that program.  For God sakes, it can't be that hard to move teams, scorers and season ticket holders to the other side.  Or, rip out some seats on the empty side and put the cameras there.  It's just a "gotta happen" thing, IMHO.

I fail to believe that this is that difficult to achieve!

This is one of the hardest things to change in the Convo.  There would have to be major changes to the seating, the camera platforms, the media row, Rohr Room access, etc.  Structurally, the media row and camera platforms would be difficult and expensive and to move.  The walkway between upper and lower lever bowls is not wide enough on that side of the Convo.  Everything else would be a hassle.  This makes no sense for the 1-2 TV games at home per year.  It would be a complete waste of resources.  If we want to look better on TV, we should just win the games we're supposed to.

I had to miss a lot of the game on TV, but what I did see did show some cuts to the students. I think there are wasy they can emphasize the student turnout and cheering craziness without making drastic changes to The Convo or its setup. There are camera angles available as it is.

Obviously, I am not a structural engineer.  But, I do know this.  Structures all over the country are changed all the time nowadays.  I would still say: make the survey, see what the costs is and get this done the most economical way possible...if you think it is cost/beneficial.  Why throw the idea out without any kind of study?

Who is talking about 1-2 games per year?  In the future, schools will be on tv/cable and internet a whole lot more than they are today.  It's called looking ahead.

And, I repeat:  have you ever seen the Duke student section on TV/cable or the internet?  Simple question: do you want top show what WE now show or what Duke shows when trying to explain student interest in basketball?

TV shoots from press row for most games, not the sky box

The online stream of games shoots from press row but if I'm not mistaken don't the TV cameras shoot from just below the sky box? Haven't been to a TV game yet this year but that's how it was set up in years past.

I believe this is correct -- stream comes from press row, ESPNU and STO have had slash angles and talent cameras on press row, but their primary half-court shots are from up in the skybox.

Since we're spending money we don't have here.... let's not forget we'll need to re-paint the logo at center court so the Attack Cat isn't upside down on TV...

There are a million better ways to spend invisible money than flipping the Convo setup right now...
