Hey guys, even though I am new to the site, I've been reading this board for couple of years now.  Thought it was my time to shine.  HAHA!!!  I live up around Newark and don't get to a lot of games but I was down there last Saturday to see us against Kent State.  Besides the questions of how the team played, another one is, does anyone know when the Nelsonville By-Pass is suppose to be done?  I saw they were starting and that would allow me maybe more time to come down (less travel time).  Looking forward to talking some ball with you guys!!  Thanks!!

P.S. After Saturday's game, I will say Coop is a BEAST!!!

I believe they're still saying Summer 2013 for the entire thing to be open -- I have no reference for that but my own shoddy memory, however.

July 31, 2013...no more using location as an excuse for things...straight shot from C-bus, approximately 1h 15m from center of town - all 4 lane. Book it.

Our local tv station did a story earlier this week saying that part of it will be open in 2012 and the rest by 2013.  I know Mischief was filmed there and Sarah Jessica Parker and Paul Bunyan like Nelsonville, but I can't see myself ever going through there again once this road is opened.  Is it 2013 yet?

To be honest Love, I have already talked my fiancee to move to Athens in 5-10 years so that we can get season tickets and go to every home game.

My favorite topic to chime in on: When is the last time I'll ever have to deal with Nelsonville traffic?

I saved part of Sunday's Dispatch to keep until it was complete. It contained much of the info that has already been posted, and I'm guessing that was what Alan was mentioning.

Anyway, for those who didn't see, here are the articles pertaining to 33 & the bypass from the Dispatch.

And welcome GreenFever! I'd say no need to wait until 2013 or your move to Athens to get your hoops tickets... There's a fair number of cars heading back up 33 towards Columbus(Newark, etc) after each game. The bypass is going to make it so much sweeter though..

The biggest C-Bus to Convo log jam is the 33/270 interchange at rush hour(s)- not Nelsonville! I have to add AT LEAST 15-20 minutes to my drive time for the weekday 7:00 games.

I live near 270/E Main Reynoldsburg area. Typical weekday drive time down - 1:30-45 minutes - depending on how backed up it is. The drive back at night after the game - never longer than 1:15, have made it in 1:10. The stretch of 33 from 270 to Lancaster by-pass will be a problem for years to come - they just announced that they have no plans in place to get rid of the several lights that also jam it up. Nelsonville by-pass will help, but probably just be offset as 33 just gets worse.

And I agree - location no excuse. 20 year season ticket holder here - 14 of them in Columbus - and hardly EVER miss a game in the Convo.

Per the location no excuse issue - I often wonder about many of those that live A LOT closer than I do.

I agree about 270 & 33...That first 10 miles or so on 33 can be rough right at 5:30 and really screws up my commute to the weeknight games.  The light by the McDonalds & Speedway is brutal.  It'll only get worse.

uh......if you make the 70 mile trip from columbus to athens  in 42 mins, that means you're driving about 100 miles an hr.  factor in lights, you're going even faster.

Agreed.  The Brice Road suggestion was for the poster who said he lived near the 270/Reynoldsburg area.

Don't worry in two years when the bypass is fully operational we will need a bypass of the Lancaster to Columbus part of 33 or a major restructuring of the roadway making it a limited access highway.

What % of our out of town fans come from north as opposed to east, west or south?

What % of the fanbase for foot and hoop is form out of town?

Anyone know or have educated guess?

Exactly why this project has been 30 years in the making.  No disrespect to politics, but without Gov. Strickland this would have never happened, and if not being so far a long this project would be killed in the current climate.

Even though that is a true statement, they will still have Rocky Mountain Boots and the scenic train station.  So that will still bring in some money outside the community.  And really, are those two things the only reasons people go to Nelsonville anyways?  I know I just go right through it myself.  Maybe stop at the McDonalds every so often on my way home from OU.

This would be interesting to see. I'm sure it can vary. For example, this coming weekend probably will have a lot more out-of-towners. I'm sure weekday games get very few people coming from too far away. It seems from this topic very few people come even from Columbus on a weeknight.

I'm drawing a blank here at the moment, but I did get the numbers of Central Ohio hoop/football season ticket numbers once upon a time. I think for basketball it was a few hundred. Meaning probably a hundred or so make it down on any given weeknight. I know there's a quite a handful, because you'll see a bunch of OU license plate covers, etc on the way back from games...

If we can get a more competitive team in the Convo again, I think that number could rise, once Nelsonville is bypassed.
