and a couple things that still need some work.

Some nice play calling and execution out of a couple of time outs.  Somebody saw something and they made the call AND made the plays.  This includes some very nice ball movement when taking the ball out under our basket that resulted in key baskets.

Much better work on the boards today.  Still some bad positioning but no lack of hustle.  (It does seem like maybe the doubling up out front keeps a big out of rebounding position.  Saw it several times today with Devaughn.  Still better hustle today.

Like Love said..Nick's defense was top notch all day.

Keely seemed to work hard today.  Not many stats to show for it but pretty solid play.

Tommy worked hard, again, to keep moving and try to get open.  Him and Nick took the full attention on defense which let Ivo go wild.  Neither one gave up and therefore the defense could never relax.

DJ pretty steady..Some nice, very nice looks and passes.  He gets to loose balls as well as anyone I've seen for a while.  Had some weird turnovers..maybe trying to do a little much at times.

Getting some good minutes from the bench at good times.

The reaction from the coaching staff during the near meltdown when we were taking shots with 25 seconds left on shot clock was good to see.  A couple of good timeouts to deal with it (We still did it too many times though)

Someone mentioned the number of open 3's from all our opponents..Again today they seemed to get a bunch.  I watch but can't quite figure it out.

110 seemed pumped today.

Rufus is really, really good with kids, parents of kids, adults with disabilities, students, etc.  Oh yeah and tumbling.

Cheerleaders work really hard at what they do and they do it pretty well (almost as good as when my daughter was there :)

Drumline and Dance Team performance was really fun.

Personally I could do without the PA guy exhorting me to do things...but can't fault the enthusiasm.

Once again the National Anthem performance was top notch.

O-zone has been very good given the not so great home record.  Props for keeping it up.

TWO ALL AMERICANS..Wresting and Baseball.  Nice recognition by the crowd.

Go Bobcats

2 Totally Irrelevant Thoughts I Have Every Game (but realize it's too minor to post, but I am for some reason now):

1.  Can We End the "Stand Up for Defense" at the Beginning of Every Half?
If there was a little cartoon bubble coming out of everybody's head I bet there would be a whole lot of people thinking, "I hope the other team just scores in a hurry to end this thing."

2.  Why Do Our Bigs Jump Out to Double the Point Guard?
I realize the purpose is to disrupt the offensive set, yet I don't recall that happening a lot.  What I do recall happening is:
a.  We pick up a ticky-tack foul
b.  Our big man is out of position and this further hurts our already suspect rebounding positioning.

So there, I got it off my chest.  Whooo...feel better.

Couldn't agree more on the stand for D thing.  The only reason many of us stand is because the guy in front of us stands.  Think about it for a minute, the moment the other team scores everyone sits down.  If that isn't motivation for the opponents to score, I don't know what is.

Who came up with this stupid idea?  Maybe we can get the announcer to just not remind of this any longer.  He's been known to do things on his own like the two minute announcement.

I told everyone standing for D was stupid when it was started, and I got torched on this board. Now, the topic is resurrected, and I feel a groundswell coming to squash it again. Gun to my head, the first half one stays, the second half one is destroyed. The second half one makes us look like a joke.

Poor Lou Horvath is trying to incite the crowd fo stand for D, and the entire crowd sees it as a chore instead of a rallying cry. He could say "C'mon everyone, time to eat those vegetables" and it would accomplish the exact same thing. Does absolutely nothing. Just like I said 2 years ago, but whatever.

If the crowd actually cheered (or did anything) they wouldn't need to stand up for defense. I feel like the Ozone is the only section cheering most of the time.

This is not a knock on Lou, love the guy and think he does a great job. That said I don't care for PA announcers doubling as cheerleaders. It's High Schoolish and that includes the Stand For Defense BS.

Was probably the most suspenseful Tire Roll in the history of the Convo.

Maybe the best come from behind win in the history of the Tricycle race as well.

The Varsity 110 was on. The girl that was directing yesterday seems to have a better feel for the "full" time-outs and attempts to get the "full" song played. During "Cheer" we even had the  3 front line trumptets and trombones still laying on the floor when the ref handed Ivo the ball to shoot a one and one.

Stand Up For Defense is genius and exactly what this team needs.  Especially this year.  All others, too.  Defense wins.  Forty minutes of hell.  Not forty minutes of sorta not much.

I'm really saddened by seeing Love, The's..oh, sorry, Ron's...dredging up his 'anti' on this point.

CGeorge--I totally agree with your thought that we guard (double team at times) guys way away from the hoop with no particular effect (not likely to score from out there) while leaving other will-hurt-us things open.  If we can guard way out there without causing detriment, okay.  But don't do it if it hurts us elsewhere.

Between that and the half court shot, I don't think we will ever see a better set of timeout entertainment.

I've seen crazier things happen.

What a great post. I had hoped for more of these following Bobcat Warrior's plea but negative vibes seem to eminate from Athens at an incredible ratio to positive ones. Thank you for this well thought out post that is upbeat and still manages to point out places to improve without casting a pall or offering some lamb up for slaughter.
