Ricardo Johnson scored a Career high 11 points in 17 minutes in the 91 to 85 loss to CMU, Rico also recorded 2 steals.     Rico was 3 for 4 from the field and 5 for 5 from the FT line in his 17 minutes.  Let's hope this is a sign for better things to come,

Under Groce's way of doing things, an increase of minutes means Ricardo is practicing better. I'm glad to see the improvement.

Johnson had a great game.  He made an impact.  He played some defense, hit shots in the lane and made his free throws.

If he and Hall can each take decent steps over the offseason, that would go a long way towards offsetting the loss of Tommy.

It seemed like Ricardo got his minutes mostly in the last 10 minutes when we needed someone without foul trouble. However it was he got on the court, he made the most of it and I hope it continues.

Yeah, I too was stoked to see RJ start producing. He has a wealth of talent and hopefully his confidence will continue to grow. I believe Ricardo will continue improve if Groce gives him the PT.

If he plays defense he will play because Groce isn't getting much defense except fouls from this team. This team needs find away to get stops.  Getting lit up by Central Michigan who had not scored over 70 all season until they saw Groce's pathetic basketball team's effort on Wednesday. No excuse to give up 90 points. Don't tell me we had a good effort. We gave up 90 points to Central Michigan. We don't play with the effort on defense to contend in the MAC and that is real sad to see with the talent on this team. That falls on the head coach and his staff. Take a good look at Gary Waters at Cleveland State. Its not an accident teams can't score on Waters's team.  They are 22-3 and are well coached on defense. Ohio is not a well coached team consistently giving up 75 points a game. No team in the nation can win with that kind of defense.  CSU would have held CMU under 50 we gave up 90.  Bobcats are too busy crying to the officials instead of being focused on the game. That's why we give up offensive rebounds on missed foul shots on a regular basis.

I can't even read this let alone comment on how many things are just plain wrong. Do you know ow to indent and punctuate? Really, how many times have you actually heard Rhegi or his counterpart take pot shots at the refs? You know something is hinky when those 2 are actually questioning the calls.

How about asking about or observing the big change in CMU. Trey Ziegler actually ran the point and made his team mates better. He got his team mates great looks off penetration. Quite a change in the appearance of that team and blows the entire scouting report up when those things happen. That is a huge amount of talent EX has up there. Cats just ran into them the night they decided to utilize it. So what. I did not see the players giving up down the stretch. They kept jumping and trapping and causing turnovers unless my telecast was different than yours.

The board had a more postiive tone when you were not here. Have you ever been here with something positive to add?. Come to think of it. Maybe this recent appearance is a direct correlation with the absence of another negative nabob.

756--Not sure about that.  CMU has a huge amount of talent?  What's their record?  If what catJohn posted about CMU never having scored over 70 in a game this season and us giving up 90 to them is true, then his arg holds water and yours don't.  There is not much evidence (factual or observational) to support the theory that we play good defense this year.

Monroe, CMU had the highest rated recruiting class in the MAC with Ohio second coming into this season.  Lack of talent is not CMU's problem.  756 is trying to say, I think, that they have been underachieving all year but vs. Ohio on Wednesday came a lot closer to their potential.  I'm sure we could have played better defensively, but prior to that game I saw Ohio in person play good defense vs. Ball St. and EMU.

CMU had just 53 against Kent State....not in a half like they did vs Ohio but for the game. CMU had just 19 points at the half shot 25% vs Kent St defense. 14 turnovers in first half.   There is a big difference between the defense Kent State brings every nite and the one Ohio displays most of the time.  The difference between being a team that earns a bye and a team that is playing in first round comes down to defense.  Look at Miami today they clamped down the defense on EMU and came back down 19 with 10 to play and won when they were ice cold. 29-7 run on the road to close the game.  That is some serious defense. Last year we improved on the defense end late in the season.

Bottom line, CMU is not a good basketball team. It took them two trips to Northeast Ohio to score 96 points (43 at Akron, 53 at KSU). They almost scored that much v. Ohio.

CMU after the 90 they scored on us still only averages 59 points per game on the season.  They scored more than 30 points above their season average. Kansas had 98 on us, but Kansas is a top 5 team in the country. Much better today as we contained Silas.

Jeff--You're not really trying to slip by here with an argument on how a class of recruits was rated (as opposed to how the team is performing (won/loss record, scoring achievement, etc))--are you?!

Not at all, Monroe...I'm trying to say that CMU has underachieved horribly this year.  They are without doubt the most disappointing team in the MAC this year.  Against Ohio, they played more like everyone expected them to play.  Having said that, it is inexcuseable that Ohio gave up 91 points to that team.

Will be interesting to see how Ricardo, TJ and Nick progress in the years to come.  They have rotated being "the best of the 3" throughout the season.  Starting the season I got the feeling most expected Ricardo to have the biggest impact on this years team.  Then it became quickly evident that Nick was going to be.  Then it appeared TJ was going to shine and Ricardo was a very distant third and probably not even close to ready this year to contribute.  Now it appears Ricardo is passing TJ and that it's 1. Nick, 2. Ricardo, 3. TJ.

Good news is that all three have shown glimpses this year (Ricardo not until the last couple games as I was ready to bury him for this season).  Will be exciting to see if 1, 2 or all 3 will make the big improvements we've seen from the Fresh-to-Soph years ala Ivo.
