Now the schedule goes back to the East division where we were 1-4 the first time around.
Does anyone think we will improve on that? I don't know, but I doubt it.
So in the end it means another loosing season under Groce, 2 out of his first 3.
So many were high on this coaching hire.
Are those that were still positive?
Shouldn't we have expected better results?
He hasn't shown us better results than TOS.
How can Kent continually achieve 20 win seasons when they have changed coach after coach.
We could have hired Geno, but no.
We basically ran TOS out of town.
I think  Groce has a higher likeability rating.
However, aren't we are looking for more wins?
Thoughts anyone?

2-3 through the East is probably a best-case scenario. 1-4 is more likely, and honestly 0-5 wouldn't shock me.

I think I hate "loosing " even more than you on many levels.

I think I have never seen a positive word in your posts.

There's not a lack of effort out there. There is a lack of execution and a lack of understanding fundamental principles of the game or what the scheme is at certain times but there is no quit or lack of hustle.

Grove seems to have recruited some really athletic kids. From the looks of things he is making up for education and basketball knowledge they did not get in their developement. Kellogg vs Hall and Johnson is A good example. Kellogg comes out of a program where kids learn the game. His buddy Sullinger is showwing that in spades with that skill, body and knowledge. Everything Koufos and Mullins were missing.

71, how about a post that is well thought out and looks at both sides and not just what is wrong?

Ahhhh yes.

Forgot about the bipolar dcf. Either totally on board and jacked up or totally the pall bearer of bad thoughts and tidings. Kind of missed during this swing through the west.

Define irony.
Point out others' misspellings,
Then write Groce with "V".

Hey tdcz756....Appreciate your comments which is exactly what I was looking for in my post.
Your comment about me only being negative is not exactly true.
Please refer to my post on the football page titled "Recruiting Class Summary".
I like to separate fact from opinion.
Fact 1: Frank has turned the football program around.
Fact 2: These past 2 coaches have not improved the basketball program from the Hunter days.
Opinion 1: All us fans would like to see the basketball program win a consistant 20 games per year with more NCAA appearances.
Opinion 2: Most of us probably thought Groce would improve the program.
If anyone truly believes he has through his 1st 3 years I would like you to help me understand exactly how the program has improved.

Those are both opinions.

Shouldn't we have expected better results?
He hasn't shown us better results than TOS.

The cupboard was bare.  Give Gross two more years.

Think about it.  This year's seniors.  Only one big and no ball handler--that is amazing.  That has led to a bench of freshman.

During last season's outstanding run, Gross wore out the two guards because there wasn't anyone who could give them a break.  TOS left no bench strength.  Keely and Baltic shouldn't have seen the floor last year except for mop up time.

Next season there should be four guys who can handle the ball, with the current two, the JUCO and freshman Taylor.  Additionally the bigs will then have more experience and bench strength with the more seasoned sophomore Jacobs. Throw in the two transfers and you are looking 9 deep instead of 7 deep.  Add the two slashers of Hall and Rico, each to back up the other.

This time next year if there is no improvement from now than comments like this will be timely, to make them now is to only look at records and not talent.  Someone commented about KSU and their 20 game win streaks through various coaching changes.  It seems that KSU consistently recruited and didn't rely on wholesale player change; their upper classmen could be counted on to produce as starters and bench support, not so at Ohio.

Inasmuch as that was the best week Ohio basketball enjoyed in over 30 years, works for me.

I have disagreed elsewhere that our results have matched our talent level under Groce, so I won't rehash that here.  I just wanted to note that while what you say about Kent has generally been true over the bulk of their run, this year 7 of their 10 regulars are playing their first season in a Kent uniform.  Geno Ford was able to reload on the fly this year, while we are in the midst of a third straight rebuilding year under Groce.

With the one exception of last year's QFs, it seems pretty clear to me that Geno is significantly ahead of Groce to date as both an in-game tactician as well as a recruiter.

Fine, I'll up the meds. We probably are better now than we were a month ago. I'm still calling 1-4. No one wants to be wrong more than I do. And believe me when I say, despite being quite sour on this team's chances, I hope to get to a game very soon.

Take away one magical week in March...and many people would be calling for Groce's head right now. I'll sit by and give him another year to to turn this thing around. At some point, contending for MAC East Championships would be nice.

FL. I'm kind of taking a wait-and-see attitude also.   There are times -- like last March -- that I think JG is the next Johnny Wooden.  There are times like when we play Temple and turn one of the worst three-point shooting teams in the country into the best in the land that I think he's Billy Hahn's long-lost cousin.  In general I think he's upped our talent level since the TOS years, but I don't think he's as good a game coach as TOS (boy was that hard to get out) nor Larry Hunter.  When JG calls a TO in the waning moments of a game I almost never see anything resembling a plan when the team comes back on the court.  His sideline deportment is often puzzling to me.  He seems to me to overract to plays and calls sometimes and his facial expressions remind me just a little of some of Bo Pelini's antics on the sidelines that got him into so much trouble last year.  In a word, the man is an enigma to me.  JG is not at that level yet, but he seems to me to be tending in that direction at times. The recent example of the way he handled the DJ injury in the UT game also adds to my questions about him on a personal level.  What is he at the core?  I really don't have a good handle on that and haven't since the day he was hired.  I'm hoping that as JG gains experience as a head coach that he'll get better in making in-game decisions and that he'll improve overall as a coach.  Maybe as he matures he'll smooth out some of the rough "personality issues" also.  I'm hopeful.

While I almost always agree with things Flomogenized I feel a need to point out that

a) Kent and BG can generally get kids into school that Ohio can not. This is verified not only by former Ohio coaches but by former BG and KSU coaches with whom I have spoken. If getting less than stellar scholars who do not finish school  in larger numbers is our new recruiting standard then we will have a whole new population of players to choose from.

b) If we were to bring even half of those players on which Kent has built their reputation to campus there would be all sorts of holy heck to pay on this board and from those who seek to shut down athletics.

I am not going to even debate who is the better tactician. To be sure, my money might actually be on Ford just because any kid growing up in a house with a man that successful at the head of the table every night is bound to pick up a little bit just by osmosis and a lot by following Pop around and listening.

Sorry Pete,Chocteau, I did not see the mis-spelling before I sent from my iPhone and I actually pressed a v next to the c making Groce into Grove. On the other hand loosing for losing and excepting for accepting is an accepted practice in certain forums that needs to at least be shown the light of day.
