We're 4-1 vs. the West, but the East is 23-6 overall against the West after going 6-0 yesterday and Tuesday.

Only Akron has lost twice against hte West. Kent State hasn't lost once (but they do have one game to be made up in addition to the ones this weekend). I was hoping we'd maybe go 5-1 and gain at least a game on several teams. Now even if we do get to 5-1, we're probably just keeping pace.

I guess the good thing that could come out of the East's dominance is that the West has lost so much that all of the East teams could have byes or first-round home games in the tournament and all four road teams could be from the West. It had seemed pretty certain Toledo, Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan will be road teams and the way things have gone, probably NIU also.

Of course, taking the No. 7 overall seed would have the advantage of potentially facing Ball State in the second round, which seems far more appealing than going against any team from the East.

All of this is a long ways from now, but it seems quite predictable at this point.

I agree that what we're really playing for now is a first round MAC tournament game.  To do that, we have to finish in the top 8.  So basically, we are competing against the top three teams in the West to finish in the top 8.  Only bad thing is that the West teams can now improve their records against each other, while Ohio is facing a tough road schedule and is bearing the load of the three conference home losses.

I hope we finish in the top 8.

Finishing in the top 3 in the East seems unrealistic at this point and if we don't get a bye then the best case scenario is to finish as the #7 seed.  We would start off with a home game against an also ran West team (#10 seed) and then get the #2 seed which will almost assuredly be the West winner.  We wouldn't be tabbed to face the #1 seed until the finals.  At this point that's exactly where we stand.

I have my theory that Groce wants to top 2010 by becoming the first MAC program to win the tourney as a #10 seed the way we've unexplicably lost a few games. All jokes aside, winning 4 out of the last 5 MAC games is pretty good and I would note that Ohio is only 4 games beind the best MAC team in the overall wins and loss collumn. If the Cats can get it together down the stretch they have a legitimate chance of making things interesting in the MAC tourney. I'm not expecting us to win the MAC tourney but a MAC final isn't out of the question and that would be good enough to mark the season OK in my book. There is only 9 real scholarship players (plus a project in Ethan) on the roster this year, 6 of which are Groce recruited guys. A solid finish this year and 5 more Groce recruited guys in the program makes next season look potentially promising. With Jacobs keep in mine that Patrick Flomo didn't really contribute until his Junior and Senior years and that Jacobs is only a redshirt freshman.

Wes,

I am pretty sure that Jacobs is a true freshman this year.  I agree with you that MOST bigs that come in out of highschool take at least 2-3 years to really start playing well.
