Life on the Road

To all Bobcat historians. When was the last time we had a better record on the road than at the Convo. Right now we are 5-4 in true road games, 6-5 in road/neutral games and 8-8 at home. Both Groce and Solich have taught our guys to win on the road. Now let's step it up.

Not sure, NK, I'll have to check. I do remember one year in the early 1970s, I think it was, when Bill Hess had a team that beat two "big time" teams on the road but had trouble in the conference and at home. Even though this is football (you mentioned Solich), it's best I can come up with in terms of a better road then home record.

OK, I looked it up. It was 1971. The big time victories were 35-6 against Kentucky and 30-7 against Tulane (yes they were big time back then). On the road Ohio also had close losses to Virginia Tech (37-29; only decided late in the 4th Qt.) and Toledo (31-28) and victories against Marshall (30-0) and Miami (3-0). However, they lost to BG (20-19), WMU (28-14) and Cincinnati (23-15) at home. The only home victory was against Kent State (37-21). There were only four home games that season and six away games. The home record was 1-3 and the road record was 4-2 for a season record of 5-5. Best I could come up with on short order.

OCF, that power Tulane went 3-8 in 1971, I still can't believe they didn't get invited to the Sugar Bowl after such a successful season.
