I'm expecting a Groce is headed to ____________ to pop up any day now! Speaking of does anyone miss TOS yet? Tonite was definitely a That's Life On The Road In The MAC moment.

He gets this season and one more.  Then, very serious questions will be needed to be asked.

And here I thought you were already asking them every time we are losing or have lost a game for the past 1+ years now!

11 months ago this board was hoping to keep JG for at least one more season, before he got picked up by another/bigger school.  And now this kind of chatter begins less than a year later.    I know these guys make a lot of money, but the unsteadiness of the profession would be tough.

As bad as things are looking on the court and aside from the players occassionally coaching themselves to a win Groce deserves time to get his players into his system. I'm hoping the Cats can rally to finish .500 and avoid a 20 loss season. The league is so soft right now that is pretty doable. Next year we'll have a deeper team and the expectation moving forward is to win 20+ on out.

Wes--I agree.  I'm still on the JG bandwagon.  But don't you feel like you could've posted that exact same thought each of the past 3 seasons?  Feels like that's the way I feel every year about 3/4th of the way through the season.  We always feel like, "next year we'll have more/new guys and it'll all be better."  Appropriate kind of feeling seeing as though it's Groundhog Day.

Seems to me like we're still gonna be thin at power forward and center next year unless something changes.

I think the key word Monroe is "thin", when looking at the guys in street clothes on the bench and looking at the incoming recruits for next season. I  hope "thin is in", because we sure have it.

No kidding. Can you imagine having your career, and your family's home and stability, be dependent on the actions of a group of 18-22 year olds? Stressful is an enormous understatement.

What I think is the most distressing is that the MAC has never been more down and we still are lower tier in the league.  As fiery as Groce is, this team is not taking on his personality.  We are poor on defense and rebounding which are basically effort areas more than skill.  We try to outjump the other team for rebounds and that just isn't going to work.  We seem to lose focus on the weak side and end up losing position. This leads to offensive rebounds or wide open jumpers.  Ball reversal seems to kill us.  A popular saying in the TOS era was that we need more GRIT.  Well that still applies.

Can't imagine it but like any job, it's the choice the job holder makes.  With that stress comes a pretty nice salary though including a very nice $50,000 raise for this year.

That old "get my kids in the system" didn't work for Rich Rod and it shouldn't work anywhere after 3 years.
Freshman are the new studs of college hoops and it doesn't take 3 years to recruit or develop one - or two or three.

No, give me another reason to keep JG around, like "He's a good coach" or "He represents OU well", both of which I agree with, or anything but "certain success is only guaranteed by his next recruiting class".

For the record, I don't think 3 years is long enough to establish oneself at the D1 level but if you happen to be Rich Rod or Lou Saban or Calipari or another carpetbagger promising same then I'm gonna hold you to it.

My question is, and it is a question because I don't know the answer, but is Groce looking around the state of Ohio for recruits?  I know he's got Stevie from Gahanna whom seems to be a great player but what about the studs up at St Edwards or over at Northland?  I know he has ties in Indiana but let's not forget we got some players here in our school systems.

Nope. He has completely turned his back on Ohio. He mandated to his staff and the recruiting services to delete the State of Ohio from all files, queries, and reports. Anywhere Ohio is currently in print has now been redacted or had liquid paper used on it.

Gimme a break. This has to be the dumbest post of the year so far.

I don't care if a kid comes from Phnom Penh as long as he has game and he's a good student and citizen.

I feel like the same type of comments were made in regards to TOS and recruiting. Personally I could careless where the kids come from. As long as they have talent, are smart enough to stay in school, out of trouble, & like the area then who really cares.

Just a cursory glance at our roster and our new players who will be eligible next year shows that we are developing pipeline of sorts into central Ohio.

Stevie Taylor
Nick Kellogg
Reggie Keely
Marquis Horne

4 of 11 High School recruits for Groce have been from Ohio.

We've had 2 from Illinois and 1 each from Indiana, West Virginia, Kentucky, Florida, Missouri .

As others have said, I could care less where our recruits are from if they can play and represent the University well.

Van, don't forget Jon Smith, a transfer, but coming from Grove City. With all of the schools in Ohio vying for student athletes, I'd say Ohio basketball does a pretty good job at getting in-state talent.

As I read this article today I recalled this thread. Crean talks about the progress he has made. Reading Peegs they call him "Clappy the Tan Clown" but his speech to the Rotary club is interesting in many respects. Still, as I was reading and thinking about this board I wonder how many here would be putting up  posts about RPI's and how he has X numbers of years to get it straight. Reminds me what my mentor said. "always someone out there worse off than you got it"

The line that tells me Coach Dakich did the right thing was “We inherited 30 flunked drug tests. We inherited 19 F’s. We don’t have that anymore,”

One of those flunked drug tests came here and won us a MAC Tourney and NCAA tournament game. Hooray us!

Someone said it earlier as to "WHERE WE ARE A LITTLE THIN". We need a center and bad, period, end of story.
We have the point guard and power forward covered. A center would get us to the next level for the next 2 years. You need 3 better than average players in order to go places in this league and into the tournament.
