Here are the numbers prior to the Bracket Buster:

RPI

MAC #20
Ohio #194, 7th in the MAC

Sagarin

MAC #18
Ohio #178, 6th in the MAC

The MAC has a chance to move up or down this coming weekend in the Bracket Buster games.  Hopefully, the league will have a great day and move up a few spots.

Here are the numbers AFTER the MAC went 5-7 in the Bracket Buster:

RPI

MAC #21
Ohio #182, 6th in the MAC

Sagarin

MAC #18
Ohio #171, 6th in the MAC

As you can see, very little change.  The league did drop one spot in the RPI.  Ohio has moved up in both the RPI and Sagarins.

I'm not sure it'll make much difference, come NCAA time.  During some down time I came up with a 68-team field based on the current leaders in each conference and the 37-best RPIs after that.  On that sheet, the 15 seeds start around 85 RPI, and 16 seeds start at about 100 RPI.  As of 2/16, Kent and Fiami have the best RPIs by far among MAC teams, at 94 and 96, respectively, but that would only get them a 15 seed.  And the bulk of their schedule is against teams with 140+ RPIs, so they won't have much chance to move up.  Any other team in the MAC will likely be a 16 or (gasp) 17 seed.

If the Cats win the MAC again this year, they might be faced with a play-in (aka First Round) game.  They made a nice jump last night with Buffalo win, but still sit at 193 -- about 20 back from the worst team on my sheet, Texas Southern (171).  Winthrop and BG are each 200+, so there's little help there, and not much from Akron (145).  Looks like the Cats will have to win out the regular season, and beat Kent and/or Fiami in the tournament to be able to even get a 16 seed in the NCAA.

This shows the importance of the Nov and Dec games in setting up the RPI for March.

All of this assumes that the best team from each conference gets in, though, and that usually doesn't happen. A lot of times, several of those teams ahead of the MAC rep, maybe with RPIs in the 50s, 60s or 70s, get beat in their conference tournament and instead a team maybe in the 100s gets in. This always happens in multiple leagues. But it does show what a down year the MAC is having this year.

I would almost guarentee the Bobcats would not end up in the play-in game if they win the MAC.  Maybe a 15 seed, but not a play-in game.

13th or 14th Seed in the NCAA,  After Ohio wins the MAC Tournament again this year we might even get the 12th Seed,   Selection Committee will  definetly remember the Ohio Bobcats after all the Brackets we busted last year.

Hey Ruck, do you think the "MAC is weak"? :)

Let the record show I never disputed your assertion.  I merely praised your ability to work it into every single post you've ever made.

In his defense, he doesn't just think the MAC is weak. Everything is weak.

It's all good fun. Now that you mention "everything is weak", there may be something to that statement. With all the best players in the NBA, there doesn't seem to be a dominant team. If Butler can make the final and we can beat Georgetown, maybe we're getting closer to parity across the board.

If OSU gets a number 1 seed, do you think they will go to Cleveland?
