Tommy....

I'm OK with no Ivo because he'll be on this list the next 2 years.

Congrats to DJ, Devo, & Nick!

There is some pretty good talent on the Honorable Mention team. Do they have a set number of players who make the HM team?  Not sure who you would knock off to add Tommy or Ivo.  That being said so much of what Tommy does doesn't make the scoresheet so you really have to be paying attention and we know they aren't.

It seems like a pretty fair list. I believe they take 10 honorable mention each year.

I'm sure Baltic and Freeman probably got votes, and if there were 15 spots, they'd both probably be on there, but it would be hard to pick any of those guys to remove in their place.

I thought Bowdry would be first team, considering he led the league in rebounding and was second in scoring, and I figured Jones probably was going to be second team the way Ball State kind of struggled after starting 5-0 in the league. But I guess it's the whole bad team thing working against him. He had to score the points and get the rebounds.  I'm guessing the players are listed in order of votes on the first and second teams.

I wondered if Ballard might get honorable mention, but I figured it would be a long shot considering how early in MAC play he went out. Porrini was the most surpising pick and the only guy who averaged less than 10 points per game, but I understand what a big part of Kent State's success he was.

I can't say anything is way off base. I might have made just a few changes if I voted, but things turned out reasonably.

As for the freshman team, Toledo's Reese Holliday and Western Michigan's Matt Stainbrook could have been possibilities. I'd probably  have left Chris Bond off for one of them, but then again, Bond shot 59 percent. Some tough calls for sure.

I think Tommy deserved to be on there somewhere.

Cvetinovic is a good player, but do you think he's better than the HM guys?  Not sure how he got second team.

Congrats to DJ, Devo and Nick!

No question that DJ, Devo and Nick deserved their accolades.

What may have hurt Tommy was his close range shooting.  From inside the arc, he was only 13 of 43 -- 30%.  That's what sticks out like a sore thumb.  And I think his FT % was overlooked: 84.8%.  That would've been third in the league but he didn't have enough "makes"; in order to qualify a player has to make at least 2 per game, but Tommy made only 56 in 31 games, even though he attempted more than 2 per game (66).

But how are these for obscure stats:
27 turnovers in 905 minutes (one TO every 33.5 minutes; less than one per game)
      31 steals in 31 games
     +4 steals to TOs ratio

He also averaged only about 2.3 fouls per game.  He probably drew a lot more than he got.

We will get by.
We will get by.
We will get by.
We will survive.

I hate to say it but all of the charges or attempted charges hurt him.  He is very very good at taking the charge, in fact the best I've ever seen, but some coaches and sports writers don't appreciate that and in fact, look down at it.

Had they found Baltic a month earlier he would have been on the list.  Baltic emerged as a primary scorer late in the season and he should have a big year next year as Cooper and Groce know they got a guy that teams have trouble stopping.

We are going to need one of our other bigs (Keely, Smith, Jacobs, Goard(sp?)) to step up to take some of the pressure of him though.  Having Devo on the other side takes a ton of pressure off of him.  Think of Leon's sophomore season when teams just collapsed on him after Harbut and McGowan left and none of our other bigs filled the void.  Keely has shown flashes recently so that's encouraging.
