I just watched the "official" MAC tourney preview on STO.  I was surprised by the respect given to Ohio by the team of Reghi and Mix.  Both have us in the semis and Reghi is picking OU to win the title.  Mix would but he thinks DJ's ability to sustain his high level of play (and I'm being kind) may be lacking.

GO Reghi!  (Mix like Kent)

I just watched the replay, and he said something along the lines of how Cooper doesn't always keep his head in the game. He also mentioned Cooper has taken 150 more shot attempts than anyone else on the team and he is shooting just 39 percent and should get other players more involved. Later he said to Reghi, "So what you're saying is D.J. Cooper can maintain a high level of play for 72 hours? We haven't seen it yet this season." It's obvious Mix isn't really impressed. Then again, Mix also said that Ball State beat Ohio when they met this year in Muncie.

Mix is an idiot.  He adds nothing of value to the broadcast.  Every broadcast he manages to say something that is completely inaccurate.

Reghi is a good play by play guy but I think Mix tends to bring him down.

Last year on Thursday of the MAC tourney I got a fist pound from Reghi so he's obviously the better man,

I understand where Mix is coming from. Cooper has missed key free throws late in games.  He doesn't follow thru at times on his shot. Cooper has had many great games, but he has had some games where he was off. Ohio goes as Cooper goes. If DJ plays great we can win the MAC tournament. If he is just so so then we are gonna get beat.  We have to win the battle in the backcourt.  That starts with Cooper.  Good passes and good shots. When Coop is playing his best we are one very tough basketball team.  Akron found out how dominating Ohio can be once DJ gets dialed in. Sounds like they know we got the best talent. Can we stay focused and put it together 4 games in a row. Last year we did that.

I cannot say enough to complement Michael Reghi and his coverage of the MAC. I saw the pre-tourney show tonight and have caught him on a MAC telecast (when not blacked-out) and I'm super impressed at his knowledge of the MAC, including both the teams and the individual players.

From following the MAC for several decades, I am used to the media having very little knowledge of the league, and when they do provide some coverage, whether on TV or in print, it appears that they just grabbed a couple press releases from the teams, scanned them for a few tidbits, quickly put something together to make it look good, and then quickly went back to covering the big-time schools.

The pre-tourney show on STO was excellent.

I think Reghi is a closet Bobcat fan. He's spoken highly of OUr team in every STO broadcast I've seen him do this season.

Even though Reghi makes some mistakes, I love the guy. He brings enthusiasm to the broadcast and seems to really care about the conference.

I agree about Reghi.  Mix is pretty good too.  Both of them occasionally get a fact wrong, though that could happen to anybody covering a 12-team conference.

MAC fans are pretty fortunate to have the STO coverage this year.  I spoke with Steve Mix at the Convo before the BGSU game, and he told me STO has tentative plans to cover even more MAC games next season.

He might be, but he is also a pretty big Toledo fan. Mix is a Toledo fan too, obviously.

I still say the Cavs screwed up royally when they dumped Reghi in favor of the guy they have there now. There is absolutely no entusiasm in a Cavs broadcast ever since they got rid of Reghi. Remember the days when LeBron would slam it home and you were guaranteed a "Flight Number 23" reference? Reghi and Joe Tait were/are Cleveland icons in my book.

I agree about Reghi being a closet Bobcat fan. That's fine by me. He balances out Jeff Phelps love for Akron and Kent State.

I like Michael Reghi too. Wish the Cavs would have kept him. But Fred McLeod and Austin Carr are about the most enthusiastic duo you can find.

And that's cheering for a team that is 30 games under .500

I dont know tilly, that seems like more of an exception than the rule. That was an enormous play Hickson made on the slam dunk champion Blake Griffin. And couple that with the Williams three on the other end, you're almost obligated to get hyped up for that.

I don't doubt that Carr is enthusiastic, he was with Reghi too. McCleod just sounds soft and scripted to me sometimes. To each his own, though. Just my opinion.

Austin Carr is one of my all-time 3 favorite players, along with Adrian Dantley and Gary Trent.

My oldest brother regales me with stories of Carr "driving into my lap" as he sat baseline as a student at Notre Dame when the Irish played UCLA. Or about how Carr dropped a still-NCAA tournament record "61 points against your Bobcats" in Dayton. He and I made more than one trip up to Richfield Coliseum to see the Cavs starting backcourt of Carr and Gary Brokaw play against the Buffalo Braves with John Shumate and Dantley starting on their frontline.

Having said that, I have to say that Carr is one of the biggest homers in all of sports. Loved watching him play, not so much listening to him call a game.
