I just received em from a former OU student who now lives in Tokyo. His family is doing fine. He slept oversnight in his classroom. Transportation was down yesterday, but was active today. I have not heard from a student more in the northeast. Hopefully soon.

I live in Nagoya which is about 6 hours by car south of Tokyo. The area that was closest to the epicenter got hit really hard, Tokyo registered a 6.0 and was experiencing aftershocks into the night. Someone I know who works up there said there were a lot of people in suits walking home after the subways shut down. We got hit with a 4.0 that was longer than what we were used to which was a bit scary because we didn't know if it would escalate in intensity more but luckily didn't. We had an aftershock about 30 minutes after that was a 2.0 or 3.0, but no damage to the city. Feel bad for the people up north. 5th largest ever in the world I am hearing now. Pretty crazy.

The video of the destruction is shocking. I can't even imagine what it's like to actually be there. Thoughts go out to everyone.

One of my friend's,wife's family is from the part of Japan near where the quake's epicenter hit.

Several members of her family said everything in their houses,including interior walls just started to fall down.All that's left now are the outside walls.

She also has a cousin who was driving (normally he takes the train) when the first "wave" hit. It pushed his car off the road and into a ditch.He and the friend in the car with him were able to get out,then climbed up a tree and just hung on till the water went down.Then they had a 10 hour walk back home.

As of last night,she still couldn't get in touch with some members of her family.

Hope they all are okay rpbobcat. We saw the nuclear reactor explode in Fukushima on the news when we went out tonight. Planning to find a way that I can donate to the relief efforts tomorrow.
