Does anyone know what these games cost us to play? I know we get money for playing in the NCAA, but I'm not sure about the NIT and these other tourneys.

There was a $31,500 entry fee to be a host team. Since Ohio will probably be a host team in the quarterfinals, I think they'll be on the hook for the $31,500 less whatever ticket revenue can be generated.

A couple team sites I saw mentions $31,000 to host a game.  Another one mentioned paying " a few thousand dollars" for transportation fo rthe other team (Hawaii  versus Portland).  Unlike the CBI, the cost doesn't go up with later rounds, they say.

Marshall is paying all our team's travel bills for that game. Even more priceless.

They did bring in 4,000 or so fans. Tickets were $13, $15 or $21-- $5 for students. So they probably made at least enough to cover the cost.

Somebody posted on the MAC message board that the $31K fee is only to host the opening round and that htere is no fee after that.  Is this correct?

From what I've read, you pay every time you host a game in the CIT or CBI. Before the NIT was bought by the NCAA, the NIT used to take a cut of the gate so you were in essence paying to be in the NIT as well. Not sure how the NIT operates now but I'd have to think they somehow get a taste of the gig.

The faculty will flip completely out. They may even get the skunk suit out again.

Then we probably shouldn't tell them what we pay teams that come here in November/December where the Bobcats don't have to make a return trip. Besides, it's within the budget.

WKNR 850 Cleveland was discussing Kent State's and Cleveland State's NIT victories and said that both had put in "bids" to host second-round games.

That doesn't make any sense for the NIT (but Rizzo, Roda, Goldhammer aren't exactly known for making a ton of sense).  They don't rebracket every round like in the past, so you just play whoever is on the other line and the higher seed hosts.  Only exception would be if the higher seed is inacapable of hosting (for example, Dayton was a 3 seed but the First Four forced them to play it at 6 seed Charleston).

Thus, Kent plays at Fairfield unless Fairfield can't host, and Cleveland St. gets Charleston at home unless they refuse it.

Yeah, didn't seem to make sense. Maybe each team just has to basically said they would be willing to host (and a lot of times they wouldn't have the chance unless the higher seed opted against it because of scheduling or financial reasons).

At any rate, it seems the CIT charges a small enough amountfor hosting that you stand a reasonable chance of making a profit. I'd certainly be in favor of hosting and plan to attend if we are home on Tuesday night (although I would not be able to make it Monday).
