Today I received the annual mailing for (football) ticket renewal along with the Bobcat Club informational brochure.  As I was reviewing it, I noticed we now have "Courtside Seating" available for basketball.  The seats are across from the scorer's table.  The diagram makes it look like the Ozone area. Anyone know what's up with this?

It's probably the same thing they tried at a couple games last season. There weren't seats in front of the two middle sections of the OZone, but there were in front of the two end ones.

Looks like the band will be left where they have been for the past year or so, all the way down to the floor.  The cheerleaders will probably be moved to the base line.  The new court side seats will be in front of the 3 sections the Ozone are in.  I don't think it will have much affect on things.  The students will continue to stand  and will just look over the chair back seating.  I'm hoping they can fill those seats with some of the more "rabid" older fans who may not be able to fully "express" themselves while sitting in sections 1-4, but have no problem standing up and getting a little red in the face while they have the backing of the Ozone when a bad call is made.

Spoken like a charter member of the Athens Mafia....."why try and improve things? why try something new? why try and raise some more money to advance the programs?"

"Keep everything the same. In my day, we paid a nickel for a stick of gum. Come to think of it, we shouldn't have to pay more than a nickel for our basketball tickets. We live in Athens, you owe us less than market prices for everything we consume from the University. Bring back Larry  Hunter. Carbone and Cooley should get 10 year extensions. Go Bulldogs!"

Maybe they are going to try to put the radio crew in this area with those who want to pay the big bucks.  As I understand they are going to have a tabletop with comfortable chairs as the other side and advertising on the front

Hear, Hear, Love - Amazing how some people are satisfied with the status quo.  Same conference, same lame OOC schedules, same coaches, same results.

Love -  I think you may have taken his question out of context.

I'll aks the same question. Why mess with the best student section seating in the MAC and possibly the country? Nowhere else, that I can think of, is the student section that large and has their toe's on the floor....and at mid court!  Ask any coach or player in the MAC and they'll tell you our student section is the hardest they have to face....because they are always right in your face.  I'm sure they'll be happy to now have yet another buffer between them and our students/band.  Imagine how Duke would be if they removed the "press row" from infront of their student section.

This has nothing to do with not wanting change or advancing the program. But somethings people just want to ask if it wasn't broken why change it.

I don't like it when people on this board attack you because you question our Non Conference football scheduling so why attack a guy who simply asked a question?

If people asked more questions like this maybe the world of sports would not have seat licensing, $10 beers and $6 nachos.

I'm all for change when change makes sense.

But I guess when its ALWAYS and ONLY about the money all sports fans should shut up, reach deeper and deeper into their wallets and purses because a marketing employee thought of another way to gouge the fans who are to stupid to stand up and question why.

I sat in those seats a couple time last season and really liked them.  I would not want to sit there every game though because it's easier for me to watch the game from a little higher up.  I am in agreement with not putting the seats in front of the OZone, but keeping the baseline VIP seating areas.  I really don't think there is enough demand for these seats to be filled along the sideline each game, but I may be wrong.

Those seats did not disrupt from the O-zone whatsoever imo. I sat in them as well for the Kent Game.

I would argue the Cheerleaders on the sideline detract from the O-zone more than some inconspicuous seating arrangement does. Getting the Cheerleaders out of the way would take some of the shackles off those kids, which would be great.

Seriously, you have to try new things. If the consistent revenue stream isn't there, I'm sure they'll go a different direction.

The difference between the "test season" and this coming season is that the seats, as shown in the brochure, extend in front of the entire ozone, not just from the baseline to roughly the top of the three point circle.  With this arrangement, Dragon would have never grown to the legend that he is today.

I will actually theorize that, at least in the short term, the O Zone will suffer from the cheerleaders moving.

Exactly.  This will hurt our home court advantage, IMO.

There is a big risk being undertaken by the Athletic Department....

A. Can the O-zone students and high dollar donors co-exist together in such close quarters?
B. If not, will the sterilized donors chase loyal O-zoners away and mess with a traditionally strong Home Court Advantage?
C. If not, will the students chase high dollar donors away (or at least back to lower priced platinum and gold seating)?

Here's where I have a problem with short time administrators (Schaus, Boeh, Hocutt, etc) making big ticket decisions and not being around while the rest of us deal with their messes.

If this goes awry, you can potentially ruin the collegiate experience for a lot of student fans. The upside is that you make an extra $25-$30k in seat donations every year going forward. To me, the upside isn't that great, but again - you have to try new things. I just wish it was Ohio University people making the decisions. Nothing against Schaus and Co, but they won't be here to deal with the lasting effects of their decisions like most of the people on this board will be.

Should be interesting. I think it will be fine, but I would encourage students to be themselves and for the O-zone to do what they do best, regardless of the impact on some stuffy donors (if the floor people do in fact turn out to be stuffy).

Well stated.  These seats are $600 to $900 each per year on top of the ticket price.  I'd hate to give up my section 3 seats to try these only to find that they don't work or are discountinued and not be able to get my seats back.  That's why so many pay the $100 per seat donation.  They know if they don't they'll never get those good seats back.  You're right, it is a bit of a risk for all parties involved.

...as long as they don't let the Athens Mafia decide anything.  Worthless Athens residents...  Damn Athens High School Bulldogs controlling the free world...or at least the part that spins around Athens.  Which in turn controls all of Ohio Athletics.  Man those guys are getting more done than Tony Soprano ever did.

Question? Do I pay extra taxes to be in the Mafia?

I have it on good authority that Al Swank...long time Athens resident and father of a couple of Bulldogs....is a high ranking memeber of the Athens Mafia.  At least that's what my friend at the FBI said.

Well...you can always count on the Italian vote provided we get to wet our beak a little.  That's a nice little campaign you got going.............it would be a shame to see anything happen to it, you understand.

Wait until they raise ticket prices over the $10 threshold, and then see who comes onto this site bitching and complaining that we are destroying the fan bases's ability to pay for tickets.

I.E. Homecoming tickets last year. Whew baby, we had to find the nuclear fallout shelter to get away from that &*^%storm. (Sorry Jeff, no other word for it)

I don't love the idea...Keep it simple, just leave the whole area to the students.  The convo has plenty of nice seats available, we don't need to cram in a few dozen more.  I don't fear change, but I do fear poor decisions that flop.
