Here's an interesting anecdote from tonight's game. Gonzaga's Courtney Vandersloot, who was just drafted #3 overall to the WNBA's Chicago Sky, is apparently the only player in NCAA Division I history, men or women, to amass more than 2,000 points and 1,000 assists for a career.

www.gozags.com/sports/w-baskbl/mtt/vandersloot_courtney00.html

I looked at the statistics for DJ Cooper's first two years, and it sure looks possible for him to be the first male player to do it. Currently, DJ is on pace with the scoring aspect at 1050 points. He's slightly under pace in assists at 481.

Courtney recorded fewer than 250 assists in her first two seasons, but then blew up for more than 300 in her junior and senior seasons.

Wow, that's pretty cool.  I'm so glad I got to witness DJ in person the past two seasons -- really special player.

If DJ doubles his assist total and gets to 962, he would be sixth all time in NCAA men's division I. Only three male players have ever topped 1,000 assists: Bobby Hurley, Chris Corchiani, and Ed Cota.

Wouldn't it be great if we actually won a MAC regular season title.  And made the NCAA's.

It's important to aim at the right target and to objectively evaluate.

You're right. What we discuss on a message board in the offseason is integral into the success of our team.  Come on guys. Keep your eye on the ball.  We can talk about defensive intensity, toughness on the boards and team goals.  Everything else is just frivolous, undesireable and has no place in a discussion forum.  No wonder we suck.

Heck I would take a first round bye to the MAC tourney which has never happened for Ohio. Are we the only progam in the MAC that has never performed well enough in the regular season to earn a bye?

I'm trying to approach this gently.  Seems to me that we've started a process of deification which could be premature.

Saying, "Wouldn't that be cool?" and seeing how probable it is is not deification.

Well, if we're just discussing it, y'know just kicking it about then maybe you oughta look at some of the threads on this topic in the past few months.  Both the number of threads and the volume and type of posts in those 'what place in history' threads belie the downplaying here.

It's a good point; if you don't share the accepted viewpoint, they 'your' wrong and do not participate.

It's one thing to have a different viewpoint, it's another to criticize the conversation itself.

To repeat:  I'm trying not to criticize any player.  Plus, if criticizing the conversation means disagreeing with it, then what's the point of having any discussion?

I like everyone here pretty much.  Don't take my disagreement with your thoughts as a personal attack in any way.  I never take offense at what gets sent back at what i write (without pretty clear evidence that malice is intended).

That's the thing, though. You weren't disagreeing that DJ might make this statistical benchmark. You were essentially telling us to not talk about it altogether.

Really?  Quote what I wrote above that gives you that, please.  I think that you're reading into what you want to.  You have that right, but if persons are going to extend others' remarks that far, are we going to get anywhere?

Absolutely you were trying to say this conversation shouldn't be happenning, which is dumb.

Thanks for sharing shab - That's pretty incredible that we have a guy in position to achieve something no other men's player has ever done.

Overheard during a bobcatattack chat:

I heard that Monroe Slavin already has over 1,000 posts. He could be the first poster in Bobcatattack.com v2.0 history to record 1,500 posts. What makes this even more unique and special is that he did it while maintaining a 95% irrelevancy rating.

About 95% of his posts make no sense and are just his same two arguments over and over. But at least he tries real hard! Congrats Monroe! Keep up the good work!

I do apologize.  I didn't realize the genius in whose presence I am.

How do you combine such cocksure with malice, no particular ability to reason and an inability to grasp the literal, metaphors, and inferences?

Really.  If you don't like my opinion, go for it.  But what's your problem, what's with the personal vitriol?

Good to know that in your book not sharing your holy point of view gives me no right to speak.

No fan of the "Post of the Year" posts, but this is spot on and should be in top consideration for that award.

However, the "95% irrelevancy" comment might be a bit too kind.

According to the box scores DJ had these totals for points and assists in the eleven OT periods this season.
Assists - 8
2 ptrs - 10 for 20 pts.
3ptrs - 3  for 9 pts
FTs  - 11
for a total of 40 points and 8 assists. The St. Boni game is the one in which he exploded for a big chunk of those. 4 assists and 16 points. I am not sure I would call it a big help from those numbers.

Not only that but I would assume the average college team plays 4 or 5 OT periods in a typical season. ( I haven't done any research to see the exact number)  So the benefit is actually 6 or 7 periods which lowers those numbers.

Edit: I meant "Defense, grit and rebounding, Grrrrrrr"
