He had numerous health problems the last 10 -15 years of his life. Was a great guy and one of the best to wear the green and white.

I was truly saddened by this news.  George is one of my personal favorites.  I loved watching him. I agree with giacamo’s comments.  Prayers of comfort to his family and friends.

Sad to hear this news. Really enjoyed watching George during my years at OU. His battles with Toledo's Tom Kozelko were worth the price of admission alone. For those who never got the opportunity to see George play, Leon Williams was out of that same mold. Brought a lunch-pail attitude every game, played hard but with exemplary sportsmanship, was a complete team player and was a great person off the court. Also for those who didn't know George's background, he played HS ball for Midland, Pa. That tiny little school produced basketball greats Norm VanLier, Simmie Hill and was an absolute powerhouse in the 60's & 70's in Pennsylvania Basketball.

I did have the pleasure of seeing George play and seeing him off the court quite a bit, too.  There never was a more intimidating player to appear  green and white in my estimation.  He carried that same aura off the court.  By all accounts, George was a good guy but I guarantee that you would think twice before you would consider doing anything that might offend him.

All us weenies in the Irvine dining hall used to have one eye on George whenever he came in - he being the epitome of unattainable cool in his environement, a trait he shared with teammate Billy Brown at that time.

The only times I saw George play were on television.  He had just graduated recently when I became a freshman at OU.

My condolences and prayers to his family.

The years that George played at Ohio were the years I was at Marshall.  I did see him play on my visits to Athens and in Huntington.  I always liked his style.  As others have said, prayers for his soul and for his family.  RIP, gentle giant!
