The Big East is completely falling apart and Their is some good smaller schools that would be great to add to the mac.  Cincy and Rutgers would make the most since, also maybe WVU(I know would own the mac).  It would be nice to add some bigger schools so we dont have to rely on winning the Mac tourney just to make the NCAA.

I'm pretty sure other options aside, they would both go independent before joining the MAC.

Those programs have so much more money, institutional committment to athletics, and media market placement that there is NO WAY they'd even sniff at the idea of the MAC.  Our league is outside the mix of all the movement going on in the NCAA.

All that will happen in the shake out is that schools like East Carolina will be deluded into thinking they have a shot at the big time. They will join the Big East and spend way more money than they should. Marshall probably wants to jump in, as well.

I would say UCF and ECU have legit chances at the Big East.

They do, because the Big East will be desperate to add some football playing schools to the mix. Should they? IMO they will spend more money than they should if they make the jump. They won't really compete in football and the travel cost for the non revenue sports goes way up. I'm wondering what Marshall's financial situation is after their jump to C-USA.

I'd think we'd go after Duke, UNC, Notre Dame and Kansas first.   I guess we could settle for Cincinnati and Rutgers if that doesn't work out.

I'm not so sure about Cincinnati. They were in this conference once before and you know we're not batting all that great bringing back teams that left us once already.

agreed. There is absolutely no chance of Cincinnati ever joining the MAC...keep dreaming dude. Can you imagine the Bearcats playing Eastern michigan and Akron in football on a regular basis??? LOL

What would Charles Barkley do?

Before Brian Kelly, UC wasn't much better than those teams...

You're right...but that was then and this is now. Cincy has established a very solid football program and are always competitive in basketball. This topic is an interesting/appealing thought but it's very unrealistic.  But hey, who knows? I think the addition of Temple to the conference in football turned out to be a great move.

bobcat11 said it:  its a different world now.   The MAC doesn't even register, TV-wise.   No athletic director or univ. president in their right mind would move from a bcs conference to the mac...

Now, if our collective alma mater could somehow find a way during all this shuffling to sneak into the A-10 for basketball...

Love it! The phrasing of "would the MAC welcome" is priceless.

I immediately picture the distinguished gentlemen of the MAC discussing Cincinnati and Rutgers' entrance into their conference.  The billows of conversation lingering over fine suits and monocles would be something like this:

"With no directional in their name, how does one know where they are located? Preposterous."

"Their past achievements, facilities and fanbase might be eye catching on a resume, but entrance into the MAC requires a certain pedigree - right Eastern Michigan, ol' boy?"

"The missus and I once spent a fortnight in Cincinnati. Did not care for it. It lacked the bucolic splendor of Akron."

"My driver attended Rutgers."

"Large media markets might play well with the hoi polloi, but we prefer the dignified quarters of a small, exclusive club."

"I once had the misfortune of meeting a harlot from Cincinnati. A night of port and Pagliacci made me succumb to the pleasures of the hollows. But a small portion of my earthly gains convinced her to proceed with that procedure to remove a future stain upon my name."

"I still cannot look past their name. This is an exclusive club  – we cannot just allow 'these people' and their 'hereditarial baggage" to waltz in here. What would the Sun Belt say? Now if they changed their name to East Rutgers or West Cincinnati, maybe they could be allowed in... with limited privileges. They also may only enter through the serivce entrance."

I don't endorse the furry lifestyle, but when the Bobkitten is involved things can change mighty quickly...
