Anybody have a list of the B-ball players who got all of about 20 seconds of attention on the field last night?  I think I saw John Devereaux and Vic (Baby Bull) Alexander, but they didn't read the names.  Sure wish they could have read the names and given them a little more time, though I understand it was high school band night. Noticeably absent: Gary Trent.

I am almost sure Gary was there.  I was 30 rows up, but I swear he walked past us after they came off the field.

Those players who returned deserved to be mentioned by name during their visit to the field. Make the time for it, before the game or halftime if necessary, there weren't that many of them, and I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting to know who was there. Cheap recognition.

Piss-poorly co-ordinated.Names  should have been mentioned and appeared on the "small" screen and it SHOULD have been coupled with the 110 playing Stand Up and Cheer in acknowledgement. Don't know who in the Athletic Department put this together but it deserved better treatment than it got.

I know time is limited, but you need to give more recognition than this. It was like they just rushed the guys onto the field and then rushed them off. If you can't do the recognition right, don't do it at all.

In general, I thought the whole "game coordination" last night was off. PA speaking over video board, music and band going simultaneously, lots of errors on down/distance...I know it's the first game of the season, but pretty bush league from a game operations standpoint.

DId Trent cut in front of everybody in line at the concession stand, for old times sake? (he used to cut in front of me at Boyd and I like to hold a grudge)

Add:

John Hempstead  1960's
Dustin Ford  1990's
Justin Orr  2000's
Adetunji Adedipe 2010's

Mgrs:
Brent Johnson
Jay Wolfe

"Jimmie" Jackson 1960's should be "Jerry"

Recognition at the Football game could have been handled differently; however, the event during the afternoon was outstanding!!  Kudos to Coach and Mrs. Groce for their hospitality.

Jay Wolfe, Sonny Troutman did not make it to Athens.  Several others were planning to attending such as Dan Aloi, Ryan Greenwood, but had something come up not allowing them to attend.

No excuse to have that kind of turnout and not make something if it.  Just foolish.

Really--How could this have been done this way?  In fact, aren't these program alum gents who can help build the program--for instance, isn't Sonny Troutman the coach a at pretty good Garfield Heights (Cleveland) team?  These alum must have sons who can play or other direct connections to the type of players we want at the OHIO.

The least that should have been done is that they should have been individually introduced during the football game.

Must have M.O. re the appropriate target.

I hope and expect that the football game appearance was only a piece of the weekend for these guys.  There should have been receptions, tailgates, banquets, etc. during the weekend for them and their families so that the trip was fun and worth their time.  We want these guys to be connected to their alma mater for recruiting and fund raising purposes.

It's too bad for us, as fans, that we didn't get a longer introduction and notice that would have beefed up the reception on the field.

Their names were on the big board, but not for long for sure.  I have to agree that the whole eveing was very rushed, very busy, with somebody being introduced every time out it seemed.  I did like the Bobcat Athletics program before the game covering many sports.  That was much better than just loud music.  At least for us old guys.

I have a friend, John Massara, who was one of the former managers in attendance. He said it was a good time. They went to Coach Groce's house and had a cookout at 1 p.m. before the game. They all got to sit in the end zone at tables under canopies. I'm pretty sure they were given food and beverages during the game. I think they were treated pretty well.

It was a good time at Coach Groce's house. The most important thing was seeing some of the guys you haven't seen in many years. It brings back many memories and lot's of stories.

Wow. If the Athletics Department had even minimally promoted this appearance in local advertising for the Gardner-Webb game, I would have bought at least two tickets and attended what was otherwise not a terribly appealing game. Blunderville.

Edit: On a side note, I think I just figured out who giacomo is!

I'm gonna wild-ass guess that Groce didn't communicate the availability of these former greats until it was too late for proper recognition.  Groce doesn't strike me as a details guy, considering he's quite often the most surprised member of the team when a player decides to quit.

From a distance I thought I saw Greg McDivitt, but I guess I was mistaken.  I agree it would have been very nice if they had read off each name and had the person step forward and raise his hand.  They've done this before with these types of recognition.  As has been said, everything seemed rushed and not well coordinated for this game.
