Read a feature article on him in Basketball Times.  Don't let his meager stats as a frosh at Coastal Carolina fool you.  He is a major "get" for Kent State.  He made major strides last season at Wabash, one of the nation's best JUCOs.  Some high major programs were "in" on Evans before he committed to Kent State.  He is a 6-7 wing player.

Can we just change their name to Kent State Golden Transfers?  Maybe their logo can be a bus that prints out tickets good for 2 years from the date of issue?

We have all been pumped up for JUCO's that have chosen Athens, so it's highly hypocritical of us to rip on Kent for doing the same.  I'm not a fan the JUCO route sometimes, but it is part of college sports.  I'm just tired of losing any good recruit (or games) to Kent or Akron.

I'm not saying I'm against transfers, and that I don't get excited when we get one in Athens....but over 50% of their roster (9 players!) are transfers.

The difference in enrollment requirements is one reason that Kent, BG and Akron can sign so many. I had a list of of kids I see every year. The problem is that Ohio has a bit more rigorous academinc requirements than many of their MAC counterparts. If I were a kid playing basketball looking at options I would most certainly have a few MAC schools on my list.

I really dont see a lot of those who were not academically ready for college and heading for JUCO sitting at study tables saying " I am really going to bust my arse here at Lowly Community College so I can get into a really fine institution of higher learning"....hell no.... They are more likely to say..."Kent and BG wlll take me with a 2.000198 and 8 pe courses, I got this....les go hoops baby"  I have not actually done the comparision, I just know what I have heard from players and coaches around the circuit. Oh ....and before we forget.....Senderhoff was one of those guys that had a certain IU recruit enrolled in 12 credit hours of PE before his transfer to SEO.

Just FYI -- I believe the story said he started at Coastal Carolina, which means he was a qualifier out of high school.   ... They have used this formula for so long, with success, there must be something to it, considering so many other schools around the country that try it seem to blow up.

Maybe that's it .. I belive Gates was a qualifier at Michigan, and Fisher was a qualifier at some school on the east coast before going JC. Maybe others, too?

Just saying.

You get to PLAY at a JUCO too.  Unless you go to a school with a revolving door *coughcough* you don't have an opportunity to get quality minutes until your sophomore or junior year.

Is it any better that they start here and then vanish?

Welcome to the board OUcat.

I was not referring specifically to him but to the JUCO situation in general. Foreign born athletes are in the same boat when the NCAA classifies them as their grades i.e. 8th, 9th etc do no match up one for one and there fore the core courses they may complete in their last year of school may have not been counted as a core.

THere are several ways for kids to have stellar grades but not meet all the requirements for ncaa eligibility......in which case once they complete that they may have 3 years of eligibility left at the D1 level having completed the requisite course i their first year of Juco.
