www.theclevelandfan.com/misc/the-mac/32-the-mac-archive/8826-the-top-50-mac-basketball-players-1991-2011

An interesting list, with DJ, Geno, Leon, Geter, B-Hunt, and Trent all making the list. The only big issue I take with this is I think Turner Battle is too low. The stats they list aren't that lofty, but he seemed to have a bigger impact on the game than his stats would indicate. I'll also continue my love affair with Jarrod Jones and predict he will find his way onto this list at season's end.

No kidding about Battle.  He was a much better player than David Kool.   But the biggest problem with the list is how Leon Williams is listed so low. Leon being listed behind Romeo Travis and DeAndre Haynes is an absolute travesty.

Both of them won MAC POTY, though the year Travis won it, Jerome Tillman should have won it (as a sophomore). Leon got snubbed in favor of Al Fisher. Fisher, Travis, and Haynes are the most forgettable POTY winners I've seen.

I would add David Kool of WMU. I think this lists indicates just how low the MAC has sunk this past decade (all are from since 2000, right?).

Throw Mike Bramos into the mix as well.  He appeared to be a much more impressive player than he actually was.  Tim Pollitz was a better player than Bramos.  Pollitz brought it every night.  Bramos, not so much.

9 of the top 15 played during the same time period. The Mac glory years of the mid 90's.

I saw the link on Akron's board and thought so little of it I didn't bother to post it here.

Samarco? Really? No Andrew Mitchell? Did this guy lose interest after the top 10?

" it could easily be argued that it was in the ‘90s-- as schools like Akron, Northern Illinois, and Buffalo joined the fold—that the Mid-American Conference seemed to enter its real golden age, anyway. New rivalries developed, recruiting improved, and a parade of blue chip, pro-ready stars began crashing the NCAA’s Big Dance on an annual basis, waving the proud (albeit somewhat generic) MAC flag."

Golden Age of the MAC? Beyond the Top 10, this list is not that great.
I would say that the previous generation(s) would fare pretty well against this list of "Superstars", and I would only need to go back 10 years

ReAally >>????

This got him on the list ?

34. MARTIN SAMARCO (F, Bowling Green) | 2005-2007
The long distance specialist shot a ridiculous 46% (100-219) from downtown in 2005-06

I remember watching him at Worthen but was not that impressed with the rest of the package.

Jamerson doesn't fit the criteria. It's of the last 20 years starting in 1991. Jamerson's last year was 1990.

Ummm, the list is from 1991-2011. Jamerson graduated in 1990.

This list proves why the MAC POY voting is such a joke.  Guys make this list that have no business being on there because they were a good player on the best MAC team.  DeAndre Haynes wouldn't have even started for their Elite Eight team. Romeo Travis was probably the fifth or sixth best player in the league that year.  Al Fisher wasn't even the best player on his own team much less the best player in the league.  None of the three would be among the best 50 players that played in the 90s much less the 90s and 00s.  But since they were voted "MAC POY" they will get much more publicity than they should and someone like Leon Williams who was a ton better than those gets relegated to a lower standing because we Elton Alexander and Co. aren't really paying attention.

Sorry, guys and gals, the real glory years of MAC basketball were in the 1960-75 period.  Just a few tidbits from that period as I don't have the time to look up more evidence right now:

1. Ohio has several NCAA appearances including an Elite Eight finish.
2. Bowling Green has ranked teams, and defeats NCAA tournament champion, Loyola of Chicago, in the friendly confines of Anderson Arena.
3.  BG's Brad Komives and WMU's Manny Newsome have a seesaw battle all year for the top score in NCAA Div. 1 basketball.
4.  Ohio defeats OSU both in Columbus and in Athens.
5.  Multiple B-10 teams play in Athens and lose.
7.  Toledo hands Indiana its first loss after their undefeated NCAA tournament run the previous year.  (I think IU had won something like 40 straight games.)  The game is in Toledo.

There's more . . . but I've run out of time.    I would say this is the real Golden Era of MAC basketball.  The '90s might best be referred as the revival of MAC basketball.  What we need is a new Golden Era that lasts for a few decades.  I'm very encouraged by some of the young teams in the MAC now that we may, indeed, be on the verge of another Golden Era.

OUbobcat9092--
On your 81-90 team:
Dan Palombizio has to be one of the ten.
Is "Earl Long" really Grant Long or Earl Boykins...or their love child:)   I'd pick Grant Long.
