Hmmm... if this is gigantic, what is UNI?

Glad to see us pay them back for last year. Roll on!

Taking 2 of 3 from Oakland-Portland-UNI would be huge. Getting the first one tonight was GREAT! Nice to see what life on the road has become.

Big road win.  We can be a decent team, but these free throws are problem late in games. That is a trend we must fix before MAC play where every game is close.  We are gonna lose more than we win if we can't hit 70% and 80% in the last two minutes of games.

Good win . . . we need to keep up the momentum . . . as we move forward.  I'm listening to the Oakland coach's show and he is out of his goard about the 22 TOs his team committed.  He claims that's the worst he's ever seen at home.  He says 38 points off those turnovers.  One of their players just said that our pressure had nothing to do with it; it was just his bad decisions, and "It won't happen again."  Now, the coach is saying that we are a "great dribble penetration" team and we shot a much greater three point percentage than our average.  I don't know if that's true or not.  Did not seem that way watching the game.

Ummmm, yeah.  Isn't that the same thing Marshall players said.

We were just under 33% coming into the game on 3's. Hit about 45% tonight so we did shoot it well.

Kampe gave us a lot of credit - noted our W at Marshall and the 5 pt. loss to Louisville.

Couple of big things that is different than in years past.   We have a bench and I mean a good bench.  Our bench outscored their bench 42-8.    Not only that but we had much fresher legs than they did at the end and I think that played a huge part in the win.

The other thing is we play defense. For the first time in I don't know how many years we potentially have a very good team.  Other teams really have to work hard to get good shots.  Tonight's high shooting percentage by Oakland had more to do with one very big mismatch who is going to do that to a lot of teams.  But everybody else really had to work to get shots.

This is a fantastic win. Great job. Late game collapses are worrisome, but at least we are winning games instead of losing them as they did in the past.

Big win. I thought we had a very good chance here - "Did Not Flinch"! This deep bench is great, what an asset!

Was on the road between Cleveland and Cincinnati during game time - was getting too far south of the Columbus radio station signal area with 8 minutes left. I had to stop and sit in a parking lot to listen to the finish - rest of that drive to Cincy was much more enjoyable than usual!

LOL! Pressure had everything to do with it. That's what pressure does. It forces you to make split second decisions, some of which aren't always right. I guarantee, it WILL happen again.

Speaking of Bryant...while they overachieved toward the end of last season, it appears that they are off to a terrible start this season.

I don't want to rain on anybody's parade, and all wins are good, but to get SO excited about beating Oakland-Portland-Northern Iowa, they're not murderers row.

Please, you live for raining on parades.

I got news for you.  In the landscape of college basketball today Oakland and Portland are good wins, particularly on the road.  And Northern Iowa is a good win for any program in the country.  Kentucky would be very happy to go into their arena and walk out with a win.  Oakland and UNI will both have good RPIs at the end of the season and be helpful for our resume.  Only people who aren't paying attention don't realize that.  I've said it a thousand times but I would rather play home and homes against teams like these three than play nothing but road games against BCS teams.

The secret to getting big teams to come to us is to become a very good team year after year that won't hurt their RPIs and reputations with a loss.  We won't get there either by doing what Miami does (or Western this year) which is to play all the big boys on their terms.  The secret is to play good teams but have a reasonable chance to win.  If we get enough of the wins like we had last night over time then the big boys will start to come to us.

Last night was a huge win for the program. Whether you choose to pay attention to it is your choice.

No one is saying that they are. But Oakland and NIU will turn out to be quality wins at the end of the year and wins only help the team's confidence heading into MAC play, especially in road games.

We keep talking about the big wins against Portland and N. Iowa.  Have we already beaten them?  Seems a bit premature!  Let's take them one at a time.

Giacomo's living in the past. Northern Iowa is #5 in the RPI. Their only loss is to the #2 team. In what world is that not a good win, especially on the road? Tennessee didn't beat Oakland in their gym. We did. That's a program that's averaging nearly 25 wins a season the last three years with an RPI around 50 the last two. They're going to dominate their conference again this season.

Fantastic post. And it's why college hoops' system is so far superior to CFB and the BCS. Big programs in hoops  are rewarded for playing quality teams even if they don't have name recognition.
