They lost at 7-5 Houston today 71-67.  Houston needed a 3 with 36 seconds left to take the lead and a pair of free throws after that to seal the deal.

I saw that they were leading at halftime.  Shame it got away from them.

Commandeering this into an "our opponents' games tonight" thread:

4. Louisville leads 12. Georgetown by 1 with 4:03 left in the 1st half (ESPN2).

Buffalo leads Temple by 2, 6:34 left 1st half.

BG leads Duquesne by 2, 2:20 left 1st half.

Later:

Lamar @ 3. Kentucky, 8:30, ESPNU
Oakland @ N. Dakota State, 8, ESPN3
Cleveland State @ Toledo, 8, Mac-Sports.com
Portland @ Gonzaga, 9

I see that Air Force went for two in the Military Bowl so they wouldn't go into OT and Toledo fans could catch the game against CSU.  That was nice of them.

Dickie V just gave us a shout out on the Lville/Gtown game. They flashed a graphic that showed games Lville had to come from beihind late to win. He said "Ohio, that's a good team, a good team..."

better than nothing I guess.

Yep, I agree. Honestly I think it means quite a bit.

If we were to go 11-1 and everyone kept quiet, we wouldn't be in "others receiving votes". Just another easily ignored mid-major. The hype (or RPI) can help the judgement calls (AP/ESPN/USA today polls), and that can affect the at large process, or like Norris mentioned - seeding if we do get in. And Dickie V and these others are voters so it's always good to have them thinking positively of you. And I'm sure many voters all over the country that never see Ohio play, still listen to Vitale, or watch his Twitter or read the quotes. And if we're truly a bubble team at the end of the season, I hope we're the talked about team as opposed to one rarely mentioned in the media.

Of course this is all for naught if we can't begin and end strong in conference.

I keep thinking of TOS when he was known to call Andy Katz, drumming up support, and the "Ohio, Ohio, and Ohio" comments. This sort of publicity can't hurt.

Yep...those were the bad old days...I hated it when TOS did stuff like that.  I hated that "Ohio, Ohio, Ohio" remark at the MAC tournament...

I'm all for as many of our opponents being better than we thought as possible.

Way too much down on the internet led to this...

1. Lamar has lost only to us in OT, TCU which is sitting at 8-4 by 5, tOSU, Kentucky, and Louisville which are all in the top 5 in the country in this week's rankings. At the end of the season that could prove to be one of our big wins if we are sitting as a bubble team along with UNI, Marshall, Oakland, RMU, etc.

2. What kind of magic did the AD spit out to pull off scheduling Louisville, tOSU, and Kentucky in the same season?

3. Every team in the Mountain West has a winning record.

My thoughts exactly.  Some on here are seemingly afraid to hype the team too terribly much.  Maybe it comes from previous disappointments, I don't know.  Regardless, anyone in the national media that says "Ohio is a good team" or posts about them in their blog/column is absolutely a good thing.  Still gotta keep winning to keep at-large conversations alive, but every game that leads up to the Akron game on the 14th is very winnable.  Get on ESPN as a one loss team at that point, and I'd have to think they'll be talking about OUr guys.

I was going to guess that having a guy named Knight would allow that to happen, but then I looked at his hire date and am pretty sure they already had those games in place before Pat was hired on April 11.

If you're willing to pack your bindle and take on a few L's, in college basketball you can do that, though.

I know Morehead State has had a schedule like that in the past few years. They rarely saw their home floor, but I'm sure the money is good. (Edit: They played 9th-ranked Florida two nights before they played third-ranked Ohio State last December).

As we get better, do we find it easier to up schedule (because we're an attractive draw) or more difficult ('cause 'power' schools don't want to come to Athens and get beaten or experience a home loss to us)?

I don't see Lamar as a good win unless they beat some of those teams. Playing close doesn't mean much. Any win is good, but for at-large discussion I don't think so.

Lamar winning their conference and a lot of games is a benefit to us, don't you think?
