When our top East competition is constantly going 6-0 or 5-1 against the West, we end up wondering 'what if'. We can expect another "war every night" type battle in the East and hope for a 6-4, 7-3 type record. but we have to put up a big number against the West division if we want that gaudy record that gets the attention of the selection committee. At large discussion aside, we really need to angle for a Top 2 seed in the MAC Tournament with the changes that have been made to the structure of it. Kent State and Akron should both challenge for that. Additionally Ball St with so many games against the weaker West division could put up a decent conference record too. Win the games you're supposed to win. Don't stumble. Protect the home court. We were 4-2 against the west last year. Our biggest problem was going 1-4 in the first round of games against the east.  Back to Top Pataskala General User Member Since: 7/8/2010 Location: At least six feet away from anybody else Post Count: 9,364 Status: Offline     RE: How important is sweeping the West?    Posted: 1/2/2012 2:36:41 PM  Sweeping the west is imperative.  The RPI is important not only for getting into the NCAA tourney as an at-large, but also for seeding in the tourney no matter how you get in.  Right now, only one MAC west team is in the top 150 RPI -- WMU at 125.  The rest are 191 and lower.  Beating them only hurts the RPI a little bit; losing to them is devastating.  The same goes for BGSUcks and Fiami, who are both 200+.  The east has Kent in the top 100 and Akron and Buffalo in the low 100s.  Winning four or five against them would be huge for the RPI; splitting against them would hurt the RPI a bit but would still keep the Cats in good shape for a bye in the MAC tourney. Miami dropped a single game against the West, which was all Kent needed to win the outright banner. And yes, the Flashes swept the West.
