On the bright side, if anyone tells you we'd be 12-2 heading into MAC play before the season started, we'd all take it. Like everyone else I wanted the magic carpet ride to last a bit longer. Loved the buzz in the Convo, talking it up to friends and the soundbites here and there. However I saw we had Kent, Buffalo and Akron all in the next couple weeks and realized that a loss and dropping into obscurity for the next couple of months was probably a reality. However losing at home tonight was a kick in the gut nonetheless. Like everyone else, I wanted this to continue untill we saw OHIO Top 25. The reality however is that the pollsters would drop us with any loss and while we wanted that loss to come later, it would eventually come. While it hurts tonight, maybe long term it's good we got it out of the way right now. My concern all along is that we're a finesse team that's going to lose some games when we get into slugfests, especially if the 3's aren't falling. Tonight we ran into a bluecollar, hardnosed team and we struggled. We played with fire a few times, but tonight this team had a little too much talent, a little too much grit and a few too many clutch shots to overcome as in past games. And my guess is that we'll run into many typical MAC slugfests against inferior teams who play scrappy and struggle. When you add up poor 3 point shooting + losing too many 50/50 balls + Baltic inconsistent in the post versus last year + Smith/Goard/Johnson invisible on the offensive end + poor free throw shooting= all in one night that's got to equal some loses and tonight it did. Total bummed, but trying to be rationale.
