With OOC play winding down, I thought I'd take a look at who we and the other MAC schools are matching up with before conference play begins affecting the RPI.  I only used RPI (from rpiforecase.com) to rank and did not look up if the teams have already played.  I did adjust if there was a MAC team playing another MAC team.  Interesting to see there are 18 home teams with an RPI below 100 right now, but only 9 road teams.

TV Games
Northern Iowa (3)  @  Iona (12)
Long Beach St. (13)  @  Murray St. (16)
Wichita St. (25)  @  Ohio (21)
St. Mary's (36)  @  Creighton (38)
College of Charleston (52)  @  Cleveland St. (42)
Lamar (39)  @  Davidson (43)
Indiana St. (61)  @  Oral Roberts (70)
Fairfield (75)  @  Missouri St. (72)
Drake (78)  @  North Dakota St. (73)
Nevada (104)  @  South Dakota St. (74)
Drexel (110)  @  Wisconsin Green Bay (77)
Eastern Washington (112)  @  Wisconsin Milwaukee (79)
Oakland (113)  @  Virginia Commonwealth (85)

Other MAC Games
UNC-Wilmington (122)  @  Kent St. (92)
Buffalo (119)  @  New Mexico State (94)
Akron (132)  @  Northern Colorado (124)
Western Michigan (133)  @  Manhattan (141)
Eastern Michigan (169)  @  Coastal Carolina (159)
Tennessee St. (191)  @  Central Michigan (202)
Texas San Antonio (198)  @  Bowling Green (204)
Niagara (240)  @  Northeastern (220)
Marist (263)  @  Miami (238)
Nicholls St. (247)  @  Toledo (261)
Northern Illinois (336)  @  South Dakota (301)

Edit: Corrected two Southern Conference Teams playing each other in the TV Games.

I'm not going to complain if we get Wichita, because it would be a great game, but I think we might get a little more fan interest in the game if we had St. Marys.  Even C of C might have a greater name recognition here than Wichita.

Well done.  Wow, the west coast teams are screwed travel-wise.

I'd take any of those top 5-10 teams.  I'd think Creighton or St. Mary's would be the best "name" to get the Convo hopping.

Creighton is a home team... St Mary's, C of C, WSU I think would all do well for us.

Iona lost to an below .500 Hofstra team tonight. So that will do a number on their RPI.

I'd throw Nevada in the mix of a good name.  I agree though St. Mary's would be the best.  Too bad CSU is a home team....

Would there be a solid chance of us getting Indiana St.? I'm not sure how much travel expenses and distances are taken into consideration by ESPN for the teams with higher RPI's.  I know us vs. Wichita State would draw more fans but I can't see Akron taking a trip all the way to Northern Colorado for a game that most likely won't be on TV.

Yes, location is a factor, especially for the lower-tier games and probably to a lesser extent for the TV games.

My thoughts, no way ESPN leaves Butler out of a TV game.

If matchups were announced today, and if geography were not a factor, we would likely be hosting Santa Barbara, with Nevada and Indiana State being possibilities, too. Geography usually isn't a factor in TV games, as we have had a bracketbuster matchup with New Mexico St. in the past and I remember Akron being paired with Nevada. We are also right at the border of being broadcasted on ESPN/2 or ESPNU.

IF, and it's a big if right now, OUr guys can take 4 of the next five games, I think they're positioned to get a good Bracketbuster opponent, and probably a TV game.  Regardless of who they get, Bracketbuster Saturday is always a good time.

Potential to get a true national TV game (ESPN2, not the U) if we continue winning. BracketBuster games have generally been exciting...some of the best I recall are George Mason, Detroit and Wright State. Worst: New Mexico State 20-point lead blown at halftime. The "best of " TOS there...
