Message Not Read  Refs told Zeke how to draw fouls

From Arkley's game story in the Messenger:

“The ref talked to me about the stuff I do to prevent people from fouling me,” Marshall explained. “I usually try to keep people’s arms off of me when they reach and do some small things. He told me to stop doing that and he would start calling fouls.”

Pretty shady if you ask me...

I know that refs will tell players why they called a foul but if he actually told Marshall that he would call fouls is a bit out of line.

BTW, Marshall seems to be easily frustrated.  He was benched for five or six minutes early on the 2nd half (even before the run-in with DJ) because he was losing his cool.  Would love to see the OZone rag him for 40 mins next month.  He might pop a cork.

It would have been nice if the ref would have told Ohio players how to AVOID fouls. Obviously, he had an interest in helping Akron. There's no other way to look at it.

Or he told Zeke something that was slightly more innocuous than this, and Zeke interpreted it in the way that he shared in the presser.

I'm all for criticism on the refs, but let's remember these guys probably had a 5 second discussion between plays and Zeke could have easily interpreted a comment slightly differently than the way a ref intended it. The outrage seems much ado about nothing to me.

It's a curious statement, but a non-story.

We don't know from the anecdote when this happened. It could have been summer league. Or a Dambrot scrimmage.

And furthermore, what that ref told him should be no different than what coaches would have been telling him up to the point of his great epiphany.

Bingo! Bingo!

The only thing that is a fact is that nothing is a fact.
If this statement is true, it is also false.

Refs talk to players all the time.  I'm guessing he had the same conversation with Jon Smith.  It sounds like Zeke listens better than our guys.
