Take a look at the play by play for the last 5:06 of last nights game.
We were up by 2.
We were basically leading most of the second half by 3-5 points,
We shot 1-9 from the field and 4-7 from the line.
Akron shot 2-3 from the field and 6-9 from the line.
Akron played better when it counted.
We don't know how to keep a lead.
We don't know "how to win" games like these.
Is this the fault of the players or the coaches?

I think the foul trouble finally caught up to the Bobcats. They didn't shoot good all game, which had little to do with the foul trouble, but neither did Akron until the end when Ohio was tentative trying not to foul every player out. I was amazed they maintained the lead as long as they did with that kind of foul trouble. Unlike the Bowling Green game, I don't think this one was lost because of a lack of toughness or anything like that. Akron is a really good team and it had an advantage and finally used it.

Akron has had guys missing almost every game until about the last six or so. The Zips are good with all those guys in there. Harney was suspended for a long time. He made a big impact for them. Akron is 3-0 with two road victories and a home win against Ohio. The Zips have put themselves in a real good spot so far.

We don't know how to win games like this?  Are you kidding me!?  Get off the ledge people!  We are 13-4 and just lost to an very quality Akron team.

How quickly we forget that this team beat Marshall and Oakland on the road in games like this.  We know how to win games like this, we just lost one today.  That is how things go.  I understand we are in a bit of a slide right now, but we only beat ourselves in one game.  The effort and energy was there against RMU and Akron.

WE ARE 13-4! Calm the hell down.  One or two games does not define us.

Voice of Reason....You said in your post that we should calm down, cause we are 13-4. Please remember we are 1-3 in our last 4 games that have us concerned. Shouldn't current trends carry some weight in our posted concerns?

Yes, current trends should absolutely carry some weight.  However, the general reaction taking place isn't that of a team that is 1-3 in their last four with 2 of those losses being on the road (Should have beaten BG) and one at home to a good RMU team.  The reaction taking place would be justified by a team that has lost 6 straight to far inferior teams and has shown no effort or energy (which from my observations this team has had throughout).  Talk about the issues and what we are or are not doing, but acting like this season is over because a bad stretch is crazy.

Akron is a VERY good team.  They had a bad stretch earlier in this season, but smashed Marshall (A top two CUSA team) and beat Mississippi State on the road.  We lost, but it wasn't because we are a bad team and our season is falling apart.  They beat us!  It doesn't mean it's a trend!

Have we finished a "close" game all year?

Well... how many games have we played in which our entire front line was saddled with foul trouble and we couldn't shoot?

VOR-check the other thread (about DJ) and go to"Close Game" (under 6 points) record...under.500!  Just like the over all MAC record under Groce.

I'd like arbitrary stats for $1,000, Alex.

Wow, so we are under .500 in games decided by 6 points. Why not 7, or 5?   First of all, that statement isn't exactly true to begin with.  We are 2-3 in games decided by "6" points or fewer.   Of course, technically that should also include the Lamar game since it went to overtime, which brings us to 3-3, which, of course, is not below .500.  If you stretch it out to 8 points we are all of a sudden 6-3.  I guess since we can't win the close ones we must suck because we can only win the blowouts.  Someone smarter than me will have to come up with the number that constitutes a blowout however.

OUV-I just reported the "stat" the table used.  I am not the author.  This isn't my stat to make the guy look bad.  Of course, you could use some different number.  The writer of the table appears to think there is magic in "6", I guess.  Bottom line is:  In the MAC and with this "Close game" definition, JGs record is not much to write home about.  Unless you consider less than .500 in each category "good".ere is the link:

What I see is a stat that plays out the same for almost all coaches.  The close game record is below the career record.  I'm sure there are outliers but Groce's record in close games is pretty close in line with other coaches with a similar overall record.  It still comes down to having the players IMO.  The team with the better players are going to win more games and are going to win more close games.
