Two things that the AD should consider for game days - the first is rather cheap and the other may cost a bit.  Run the university shuttles through the greens one hour before the game picking folks up who want to go.  Buy some lights to light up the outside of the Convo.  If you didn't know there was a game going on you'd never know by just driving by.  It's really dark over there.

I like the idea about the lights.  The little sign in front of the Convo just doesn't seem like much for promoting a gameday.

Absolutely love both ideas.

I've seen crazier things happen.

Two pretty excellent ideas right there.  I've actually never really considered the lighting issue, but you're absolutely right it is very dark around the convo.  Let's hope for a packed house on Saturday! I can't wait.

Both Great Ideas. Spotlight into the night (greenish hue?) outside the Convo? A couple buses back and forth from South Green/Stewart St/Palmer St area would probably get full each run!

I really like the lighting idea, but keep in mind that there are dorms in the Convo, so shining a bright light into their windows when they're trying to study would be a little bit more than very annoying.

I agree, lighting around the Convo is poor.  Residents can use window shades.

I lived in the Convo my Freshman year.  It is loud in the dorm section when something is going on in the arena.  The 110 always practiced their football halftime show on the basketball court on Thursday nights.  As a business major, I did no studying on Thursdays (since it was my Friday), but it was really loud and would have made studying very difficult.

Lighting needs to be improved outside.  It would look great to have some up-lighting shining on the brick facade.  I also think the area around the front ramp is poorly lit.  Poor lighting and suspect surface conditions in rain and ice are a bad combination.

Swank..These are two great ideas.  Not sure if you go back as far as I do at the Convo...but I thought that originally the building had accent lighting installed that shined up on the bricks, and really framed the building on game nights.   If my memory serves me correctly, during the energy "crisis" early 70's,  the lights were removed, or shut off, and never replaced or used since.  Our building could have a very special look to it if a lighting project was undertaken!!   You wouldnt need the small "basketball game tonight" signs if that building was accented properly with spots and floods....If cost is the issue, and it probably is, just turn them on for game nights, or other special days.  (home night football games etc etc)
This issue of the dark convo has been a pet pieve of mine for a long long time.  I am glad that I am not the only one who has "seen the light".....or the lack there of  !!!

Maintenance could pop some portable lights up and aim them at the brick sections. Do this for an hour for a few evenings, then ask the residents how intrusive the lighting was. Oops. Forgot how much space was above the dorms. Get some sconces, put them just above the dorm window height and light up the brick. I doubt residents would even notice. I doubt I would have. That would look sweet.

Shuttle would travel about playing "Stand up and Cheer" like an ice cream van to alert its presence. These are great ideas.

I dormed in the Convo 78/79. Note "dormed in" - no mention of "studied in"........

Besides - anytime there is an event inside the Convo - you hear the noise and that's a distrcation anyway. Back then lot's of concerts also.

The Convo is full of freshmen in quads. No one is studying in there anyway.
