I was looking for a video to talk about Walts steal and lay in...

I admire the fact that he makes the right play off the steals this year. Textbook. Steal, dribble, calmly lay it in for 2. NO theatrics at crunch time, no missed dunks that shoulda been 2, just hard nosed finishes without fanfare. Secure the basket and move on.

But I found this instead. Nicely done

I remember wondering if he was going to go for a dunk on that play - and was not at all dissapointed that he did not! Good find on the video - "toughest" player on the team.....and most of the time on the court.....

When Walter made that steal he seemed to have a kicked into an extra gear.  He was in front of his man in a flash.  Then when he got the rebound he also seemed to just have an extra several inches even after he jumped to make sure it was his rebound. As the video says "TOUGH!".

Those two plays are highlight reel material.

(btw, I have always been squeamish about break away dunks since the Florida Game in the NCAA tourney.  I kind of like the safe layup)

That steal was a great play by Walt.  The play of the game.

Also like the charges he's taking.

I was one of the "wait and see" people about Mr. Offut.  Well, I have waited and am extremely impressed with what he brings to OUr team.  Tough is a great word to describe him.  He is not flashy, probably won't lead the MAC in scoring, but he is willing to do the little things to will his team to win.

My only question about Walter is, why even bother with the mouth guard?

To me, Walter is the closer that this team needed. Cooper hasn't shown the ability to be a closer. Groce started to go to Baltic late in games last year but his FT shooting was a concern. Walter has been able to put his head down and get to the rim and get a bucket or FT's when this team has needed it late in games. He's also come up with defensive plays late. I thought Ohio's struggles against RMU and BG coincided with him maybe not being as assertive or losing a little confidence.

After his two transfers, I wasn't sure what kind of a person Ohio was getting. But he has proved to be a tough, poised, team-first type player.

I'd add Akron to that list...when he wasn't on the bench with foul trouble, he was ripping Akron's defense to shreds.  We might have won that game if he was able to play more with how he was breaking down their defense...either getting to the rim, getting fouled, or dumping it off to the bigs on the baseline if their defense collapsed on him.  IMO, as Walt goes, Ohio goes....not DJ.

He's our most compelling player at this point.  Big enough to come from the backcourt and get to the hoop with power.  Muscle at the backboard.

Let's not get carried away.  Saying we go as Walter goes, not DJ... I mean your opinion is your opinion.  However, I think that's overreaching.  Take #3 away from this squad and it is not as good.  Take #5 away from this team and it is not as good.  They both bring something totally different to THIS team.  Walter brings a controlled tenacity to the green and white that is infectious-- he injects a new level of confidence into the unit (along w/being a high basketball IQ guy).  And I'm fairly positive that if required to, he could definitely score more.  DJ, IMO though... makes this team go.  When he's on the court, I like our chances in a lot of games.  Together however, I love the possibilities of success.

Walter is a helluva player, that I'm very glad to say is a Bobcat... period.  Great find w/the video borna.  He's one of those players that's tough, w/o having to tell you that he is.  You just see it in his body language and his play on the court.  Potentially one of the better transfers we've ever had here.  Just my thoughts.

Well stated!

Agreed. I think Walter may be the difference-maker that Bassett was down the stretch in 2010.
