I look back on yesterday, and still have a grin on my face. Getting into the Convo at 1:25, and seeing the place half full already got it started right for me. With the top 5-7 rows as an exception, the Roundhouse was full by the time players were introduced, and the buzz was in the building. For me, the day brought back memories of my first years in Athens and winter quarter of 1996, and into the next winter quarter 1997. I remember two games the most from those first two years in Athens. The first was the first game I went to, which was the famous Geno Ford dribble out the clock game in 1996, and the second, the overtime thriller against Antonio Daniels led BGSU in 1997. That 1997 game is the last game I remember seeing the place as crowded as it was yesterday. I certainly hope this game gives OUr team momentum for continuing to draw large crowds going forward.
If you think about all that happened yesterday, to me, it must go into my Top Ten days in Bobcat Sports history. It certainly does at least since I was a student in 1995-96. The combination of the biggest crowd in 15 years, Gary Trent Day ceremonies, the sharing of the Idaho Potato Bowl trophy in front of the packed house, and a great nip-and-tuck college basketball game against OUr rival make it a great memory for years to come. I hope this season can continue to be a special one so that yesterday can just be part of the big picture of bigger achievements by Coach Groce's team this year.
